Role and Responsibilities:

As a Retail Checkout Associate, you will play an essential role in protecting company assets while ensuring a seamless customer experience. You will monitor self-checkout activity, provide assistance when needed, and help create a positive, efficient shopping environment. Key responsibilities include:

• Closely monitor self-checkout stations to detect irregular or suspicious transactions.
• Ensure customers scan and bag items correctly, verifying purchases when necessary.
• Respond quickly to Point-of-Sale (POS) alerts and transaction discrepancies.
• Report theft, equipment issues, or suspicious activity to store leadership immediately.
• Provide courteous and timely support to customers using self-checkout.
• Guide customers on self-checkout procedures to reduce errors and wait times.
• Maintain a friendly and approachable demeanor to create a positive atmosphere.
• Encourage customers to use self-checkout lanes when appropriate.
• Keep the self-checkout area stocked with bags, receipt paper, and cleaning supplies.
• Clean and sanitize checkout stations and surrounding areas as needed.
• Assist with gathering and returning shopping carts when required.

Required Skills and Experience:

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Keen attention to detail with the ability to recognize discrepancies.
• Strong customer service skills with a professional, friendly attitude.
• Basic computer knowledge to complete online training and operate POS systems.
• Clear communication skills in English; bilingual abilities are a plus.
• Ability to follow company policies and instructions accurately.
• High integrity and reliability in all aspects of the role.
• Ability to stay calm and effective in stressful situations.
• Physical ability to stand, walk, lift, push, or carry up to 20 lbs, with occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching, balancing, or climbing up to 4 feet.

Preferred Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or GED preferred but not required.
• Previous experience in retail or customer service is a plus.
