Produce Shift Manager

Job Summary of Produce Shift Manager:

Administer and oversee all duties of the Produce Department to accomplish sales and profit objectives. Uphold the highest quality and freshness standards for products while preserving exceptional merchandising aesthetics. Train, lead, and stimulate team members to deliver outstanding customer service and operational efficiency.

Responsibilities of Produce Shift Manager:

• Along with the Store Director, work out localized merchandising plan for the department.
• Follow approved Produce Department Plans for effective space management based on movement, consumer demand and profitability.
• Order merchandise and control inventory to minimize out-of-stocks and overstocks and to maximize sales.
• Follow approved procedures for receiving product, price marking and restocking cases to ensure quality protection, accuracy and product rotation.
• Control department expenses.
• Take action to control shrinkage and pilferage losses.
• Effectively train, schedule and supervise other produce department personnel.
• Follow planned program for cleaning and preventative maintenance on cases, back room coolers, and refrigeration equipment.
• Establish culture and a favorable department image with customers through a clean, attractive and friendly atmosphere.
• Follow all company policies and procedures.
• Maintain and submit required records and reports.
• Observe local conditions and competitive activity relating to the produce department and keep others informed.
• Maintain good communications in the store, the produce department and throughout the organization.
• Ensure compliance to company's Sanitation, Safety and Security Program.
• Ensure compliance to local, state and government weights and measures laws, and health department regulations.
• Greet all customers and be observant.
• Monitor products for quality, count and freshness.
• Manager floral department.
• Prepare a weekly schedule based on projected sales volume and workload.
• Maintain a neat personal appearance according to the company's dress code policy.
• Manage salad bar department.
• Promote all programs to insure a safe and accident-free environment.
• Conduct competitive price checks.

Qualifications of Produce Shift Manager:

• Meeting the basic standard includes obtaining a high school diploma.
• Ability to read and write to properly tag merchandise, order and maintain inventory and to insure proper rotation of product.
• Superior analytical skills are required to study and interpret multiple reports to ensure the department remains profitable.
• Successful applicants should have a minimum of two years of experience working as a produce clerk.
• Demonstrating strong communication skills, both orally and in writing, is essential for engaging with customers, employees, and vendors.
• Coordination in hand movements is a key factor in the trimming and packaging of agricultural goods.
• Expertise in unloading, relocating, and arranging products in their assigned locations.
• Need to be able to pick up items weighing up to fifty pounds for half of the time.
