- The Assistant Store Manager is responsible for ensuring that the store is meeting and/or exceeding expectations in the following areas:
- Utilization of the Sales per Labor Hour Ratio to measure productivity in stores and departments
- Standard Ticket Price, Customer Quantity, and Cost of Goods Sold for Produce Merchandise
- EBITDA
- Validates the procurement of products from the specified vendors to secure the correct discount rates and preserve profit margins.
- Guarantees that inventory availability meets the requirements set by the company
- Observing the selection of products in stock, which involves:
- Frequent evaluation of departments to ensure the retention of top-performing items and the removal of those with exceedingly low sales
- Regular incorporation of new products is stipulated by company guidelines.
- Ensures that perishable products are stocked and rotated in accordance with company expectations.
- Markdowns are supervised as per the company's standards and guidelines.
- Entrusted with helping the Store Manager in hiring, instructing, and managing all store personnel based on company protocols.
- Provides training to personnel, delegates tasks, and ensures task accountability.
- Verifies that the master and daily schedules are precise, detailed, and tailored to meet the store's demands. Ensures schedules are promptly posted and assigns daily tasks utilizing company-provided task sheets.
- Teams up with department heads to allocate and share staff members for daily assignments.
- Guides and monitors the staff to cultivate a comprehensive store image and support customers in every facet.
- Partners with department heads to equip employees with the skills needed to fulfill various job responsibilities.
- Partners with staff to ensure adequate product knowledge to meet customers' needs, training staff on where to find answers to customer questions by utilizing store resources.
- Collaborates with the Store Manager in finalizing and conducting performance evaluations for all store employees with input from department managers. Aids in approving salary adjustments where necessary.
- Evaluates candidates and makes hiring choices in consultation with department managers to address store staffing requirements.
- Handles performance and disciplinary concerns in a timely and suitable manner, with the involvement of Human Resources when necessary.
- Maintains an unambiguous and effective channel of communication with store employees, including supporting in the facilitation of monthly staff meetings and circulating company information.
- Assigned the duty of ensuring strict adherence to safety protocols.
- Makes certain that all necessary edits to Ulti-time are conducted without delay.
- Tasked with supporting the Store Manager in training, coaching, and developing the store team.
- The emphasis is placed on staff members increasing their knowledge of nutrition and product details.
- According to company protocols, he/she and store employees respond to customer queries using Structure/Function statements and statements regarding nutritional assistance.
- Executes operational tasks diligently, including handling daily schedules, checklists, and opening and closing procedures.
- Confirms that store paperwork and reports, like the Monthly Manager's Report, are finished in a timely manner.
- Concludes the DSR and Manager's Cash promptly and with precision.
- Supports department managers by responding to calls during work hours and coordinating coverage for breaks when needed.
- Addressing various challenges that can disrupt daily business operations, such as managing loiterers, addressing solicitation concerns, responding to emergency weather situations, and enforcing proper restroom conduct.
- Follows a set schedule that aligns with the operational requirements of the store, which may involve working evenings, weekends, and being assigned 45 hours per week.
- Assists staff in understanding how to endorse decisions made by the home office, listens carefully to instructions from the central office, and performs assigned tasks accurately.
- Interprets and complies with directives (memorandums, telefaxes, electronic messaging) from the main office outside of the workplace.
- Shows agility in handling evolving work demands to reach objectives.

Qualification of Assistant Retail Manager:
- High school diploma or GED required 1-2 years management experience in grocery and/or related retail experience, natural foods industry a plus.
- Able to navigate varying priorities strategically.
- Ensuring compliance with state and county laws by satisfactorily completing applicable food safety training and passing required exams to acquire mandatory certifications.
- Acquiring forklift certification is essential for anyone operating the machinery.
- Keep up with compliance requirements by updating your food safety certifications through continuous learning and registering with the relevant authority where applicable.
- Displays a sense of haste in completing tasks while also demonstrating a high level of organization.
- Possesses impressive customer service competencies.
- Capable of taking guidance and executing tasks as directed.
- Possession of a cashier training background is mandatory.
