Role and Responsibilities:
As a Meat and Seafood Clerk, you will assist customers, prepare and package fresh products, and maintain department standards. Your responsibilities include:
Create an inviting environment where customers feel welcome, valued, and appreciated.
Answer customer questions and make product suggestions to meet their needs.
Provide customers with fresh and frozen products in the correct portion size.
Inform customers of meat and seafood specials and promotions.
Recommend products to enhance customer purchases.
Prepare, package, label, and inventory meat and seafood items.
Ensure all product quality and freshness standards are met; review sell-by dates and take appropriate action.
Operate and maintain department equipment including slicers, ovens, refrigerators, and freezers according to company guidelines.
Check and record case and cooler temperatures; ensure food safety standards are met.
Maintain accurate Country of Origin Labels for all meat and seafood products.
Stock, label, and inventory merchandise as directed.
Report discrepancies, ordering issues, or safety concerns to the department manager.
Adhere to all local, state, and federal laws, as well as company safety and food safety regulations.
Reinforce safety programs by identifying unsafe conditions and notifying management.
Assist with preventive maintenance by inspecting equipment and reporting issues for repair.
Stay current with seasonal and promotional advertisements.
Required Skills and Experience:
Ability to handle stressful situations calmly and effectively.
Effective communication skills to interact with customers and team members.
Basic math skills, including counting, addition, and subtraction.
Ability to follow food safety and safety procedures consistently.
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous retail experience, ideally in a grocery, meat, or seafood department.
Ability to speak, read, or write in a second language.
Strong customer service skills and a positive, team-oriented attitude.
