Job Summary of Merchandise Receiving Manager:
The Merchandise Receiving Manager is assigned with the task of overseeing the smooth running of the receiving department and managing, directing, and observing all staff within the department.
Responsibilities of Merchandise Receiving Manager:
- Focusing on providing superior customer service above all else.
- Exhibiting integrity, responsibility, proficiency, and compliance with all policies.
- Appropriately overseeing the acceptance of all incoming products by confirming their arrival dates, checking for accuracy, and inspecting for any signs of damage.
- Reviewing the scan results of incoming and outgoing items.
- Structuring items for prompt delivery to the retail space.
- Timely and precise processing of purchase orders, return purchase orders, picking inaccuracies, invoices, and documentation.
- Assessing and correcting any inconsistencies through meticulous research.
- Touching base with departmental managers to discuss issues with deliveries and out-of-stock situations with suppliers.
- Keeping tabs on distinct orders that are being processed.
- Maneuvering a forklift and pallet jack as requested.
- Maintaining a tidy and well-kept back room environment.
- Verifying that all in-stock items meet the company's specified standards.
- Supervising department personnel through task assignments and subsequent monitoring.
- Working alongside department managers to create a comprehensive cross-training program for staff members.
- Participating in the interviewing and hiring process to fulfill departmental requirements.
- Coordinating efforts with the store manager to address performance and disciplinary concerns in the department.
- The protocol for starting and ending store operations, encompassing tasks like carrying out Daily Store Reconciliation (DSR) and finalizing cash processes at the end of the business day.
- Supervising register tasks like backup cashiering, processing product returns for customers, addressing and resolving customer issues, and ensuring coverage for register shift changes, including those for scheduled breaks.
- Securing the well-being and safety of customers and employees.
- Managing occasional business interruptions like dealing with lingering individuals, solicitation activities, emergency weather situations, and improper restroom use.
- Managing customer questions in adherence to company standards, which may involve utilizing statements concerning product structure and function, along with information on nutritional support.
- Persistent efforts to broaden product knowledge.
- Overseeing inventory using SAP and inventory management software, analyzing reports from BEx, sending emails, and employing other IS programs as necessary.
- Working a schedule based on store needs which includes evenings, weekends, holidays. Position requires working five days, 40 hours per week and attending mandatory store meetings.
Qualifications of Merchandise Receiving Manager:
- High School diploma, GED or equivalent preferred.
- 1-2 years of experience in retail experience in a grocery or retail environment; natural foods background is a plus.
- 1-2 years of experience supervising others preferred.
- 1-2 years of receiving experience preferred.
- Ability to obtain forklift certification.
- Ability to pass food safety training courses and/or certifications as required by law and maintain compliance by keeping certifications up to date and registered if applicable.
- Ability to manage changing priorities and to stay focused with the task at hand.
- Sense of urgency in the completion of tasks.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Highly organized with great attention to detail.
- Ability to take direction and follow through.
- Must be cashier trained and able to count currency.
- Proficient in MS Word, Excel and Outlook.
