Produce Floral Manager

Role and Responsibilities:

• Customer Service & Merchandising (40%): Create a welcoming environment through friendly, knowledgeable, and prompt service. Ensure the produce and floral departments are merchandised according to company plans, maintaining freshness, quality, and value. Train associates on product handling, stocking, and customer service techniques. Respond to customer requests and special orders. Maintain department cleanliness, organization, and safety.
• Leadership & Team Development (30%): Promote trust, respect, and teamwork among associates. Set goals for merchandising, sales, and profitability, empowering team members to meet or exceed them. Collaborate with store leadership on hiring, training, and performance management. Serve as subject matter expert on produce and floral products. Manage scheduling to cover peak hours effectively.
• Financial Management (20%): Oversee administrative tasks including communications, training, scheduling, and pricing changes. Monitor inventory levels and identify discrepancies. Inspect product quality and freshness; implement markdowns or discards to reduce shrink. Forecast demand using planning tools and order products accurately. Maintain compliance with food safety guidelines and temperature logs.
• Compliance & Safety (10%): Ensure compliance with company food safety, sanitation, and productivity standards. Adhere to USDA, Country of Origin Labeling (COOL), and Department of Agriculture (DOA) regulations. Execute recalls and withdrawals promptly. Identify and report hazards or incidents. Promote use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and maintain safety documentation. Ensure safe operation and maintenance of department equipment.

Required Skills and Experience:

• High School Diploma or GED.
• 3–6 years supervisory experience in produce/floral retail or a related industry.
• Strong customer service, interpersonal, and communication skills.
• Ability to lead, motivate, and develop a diverse team.
• Knowledge of food safety regulations and produce handling best practices.
• Proficiency with inventory management, merchandising, and sales forecasting.
• Comfortable working in a physically demanding retail environment.
• Proficiency with computer applications related to retail management.
• Ability to multitask and handle stressful situations effectively.
• Must obtain Food Safety Certification within 180 days of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Agriculture, or a related field.
• Bilingual in English and Spanish.

Physical & Environmental Conditions:

• Regularly required to stand, walk, lift up to 50 lbs, reach, stoop, kneel, and perform repetitive tasks.
• Exposure to indoor/outdoor environments, temperature fluctuations, and potentially hazardous conditions.
• Use of equipment such as ladders, cutting tools, floral equipment, produce tools, and cleaning supplies.
• Commitment to maintaining a safe and healthy work environment for all associates.

Work Schedule & Travel:

• Varied shifts, including three to four evening shifts per week during peak hours.
• Occasional travel required.
• No overnight travel.
