Role and Responsibilities:
In the capacity of Seafood Customer Service you will be responsible for assisting in the day-to-day operations of the seafood department, with a strong emphasis on maintaining product freshness, adhering to food safety guidelines, and providing outstanding customer service.
- Ensure customers are met with courteous, genial, and well-informed help.
- Maintain and stock seafood cases, including rotating, labeling, and displaying products correctly.
- Guide customers in their seafood choices, give recommendations on preparing it, and accommodate specific needs.
- Comply with standards for food safety, sanitation, and accurate product labeling.
- Monitor product quality diligently and promptly remove unsellable items from inventory.
- Collaborate with seafood team leaders to achieve sales, margin, and labor-related objectives.
- Support inventory control, organize backstock, and maintain department cleanliness.
- Adhere to all store and department procedures and regulations.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Proficient in customer service and excellent communication skills.
- Experienced in performing duties efficiently in a fast-paced retail environment.
- Enthusiastic about learning seafood handling, cutting, and preparation techniques.
- Committed to following food safety instructions, policies, and procedures.
- Flexible availability including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Background in retail, grocery, or food service is advantageous but not required.
Physical Demands and Job Environment:
- Ability to carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand or walk for 6 to 8 hours per shift.
- Frequent bending, squatting, twisting, and reaching movements.
- Comfort working in humid, low-temperature environments such as refrigeration and freezer units.
- Use of FDA-approved disinfectants for cleaning.
- Use of blades, cutting instruments, and other seafood processing tools.
Compensation and Benefits:
The usual starting pay for this position is $15.00 per hour, with the possibility to qualify for Whole Foods Market's comprehensive benefits package known as Whole Benefits. This package may include health insurance, retirement benefits, store discounts, paid time off, and other perks. Eligibility is based on the terms of the relevant plan at the time of employment.
