Cart Handler

Job Summary of Cart Handler:

As a Cart Handler at ShopRite, you will be responsible for the retrieval and transportation of carts or carriages from the parking area and aiding customers with their shopping requirements when necessary. This role plays a pivotal part in facilitating the front-end operations by advocating for cleanliness, orderliness, and exceptional customer experience.

Responsibilities of Cart Handler:

• Collect empty shopping carts from designated areas in the parking lot and return them to the store’s cart holding areas.
• Maintain a clean, neat, organized, and safe work/shopping environment both inside and outside the store.
• Remove debris from carts before returning them to the store.
• Assist customers with loading groceries into their vehicles when requested.
• Greet all customers and provide them with prompt, courteous service and assistance.
• Handle damaged or return-to-stock products according to company policy, with attention to perishable items and expiration dates.
• Promote for sale any current charitable campaigns to customers.
• Check prices and be knowledgeable about the location of products in the store.
• Report any equipment issues or hazards to management immediately.
• Dress and groom according to company policy, including wearing the required uniform, name badge, and hair restraint if applicable.
• Perform duties in accordance with QA hand washing standards and use gloves when handling food.
• Follow all local, state, and federal regulations pertaining to the front-end operation.
• Understand and follow all company rules, policies, safety standards, and sanitation procedures.
• Utilize and maintain equipment as required by the department.
• Perform all duties in accordance with ShopRite service priorities: Safety, Friendliness, Presentation, and Efficiency.
• Stand and walk for the duration of scheduled shift, which may exceed 8 hours per day.
• Regularly lift, push, pull, and rotate merchandise up to 25 lbs., and occasionally up to 50 lbs.
• Maintain punctual and regular attendance.
• Work overtime as assigned.
• Work cooperatively with others and perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications of Cart Handler:

• The operation of balers, hi-los, power jacks, and slicing machines is restricted to individuals 18 years and older.
• Competency in the English language includes the skills to interpret, analyze, and communicate information clearly.
• Competence in performing rudimentary mathematical equations.
• The requirement to be able to stand, bend, twist, reach, push, and exert force without pause during the assigned hours.
• Competence to fulfill job duties outdoors for extended periods despite varying weather conditions.
• Competency in customer interaction through a welcoming and supportive attitude.
• Ability to tolerate dust and cleaning agents while performing customary housekeeping tasks.
• Skill in managing all assigned work schedules and abiding by time and attendance protocols.
