Role and Responsibilities:
As a Checkout Operations Assistant, you will be responsible for protecting company assets while ensuring a seamless and positive shopping experience. You will monitor self-checkout activity, assist customers, and contribute to a safe and efficient store environment. Key responsibilities include:
- Monitor self-checkout lanes to identify irregular or suspicious transactions.
- Verify that items are scanned and bagged correctly, stepping in to assist when needed.
- Respond promptly to Point-of-Sale (POS) alerts and resolve discrepancies.
- Report theft, equipment malfunctions, or suspicious behavior to store leadership immediately.
- Provide courteous and timely assistance to customers using self-checkout stations.
- Educate customers on checkout procedures to minimize errors and wait times.
- Maintain a professional and approachable demeanor to create a welcoming environment.
- Encourage customers to use self-checkout lanes when appropriate.
- Keep the area stocked with bags, receipt paper, and cleaning supplies.
- Clean and sanitize checkout machines and surrounding areas as necessary.
- Assist with gathering and returning shopping carts when required.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Keen attention to detail with the ability to spot inconsistencies.
- Excellent customer service skills with a professional, friendly attitude.
- Basic computer literacy for online training and POS system operation.
- Clear communication skills in English; bilingual abilities are a plus.
- Ability to follow company policies and directions accurately.
- Dependable, trustworthy, and committed to integrity.
- Ability to remain calm and effective in high-pressure situations.
- Physical capability to stand, walk, lift, push, or carry up to 20 lbs, with occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching, balancing, or climbing up to 4 feet.
Preferred Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED preferred but not required.
- Prior retail or customer service experience is a plus.
