Job Summary:

A Deli Associate is responsible for providing courteous and prompt service by preparing, packaging, weighing, and merchandising various deli goods, such as meats and cheeses. They are tasked with keeping the deli department tidy, stocked, and attractive, while also supporting patrons in picking items and arranging special requests.

• Offer outstanding assistance to members by addressing their queries, proposing options, and handling unique orders.
• Prepare, portion, and pack various deli products like meats, cheeses, and ready-to-eat items for packaging.
• Provide members with a selection of sample products to help guide their choices.
• Inspect deli shipments to ensure quality standards are met.
• Organize, reposition, and promote deli goods while adhering to regulations that ensure optimal safety and product quality.
• Conduct daily checks for obsolete goods and ensure they are disposed of or salvaged correctly.
• Ensure that deli equipment and work surfaces are consistently sanitized and kept clean.
• Properly and securely operate slicers, scales, and rotisserie ovens for safety measures.
• Accuracy in scale systems is essential to ensure pricing and labeling correctness.
• Abide by the rules and regulations set forth by BJ’s, ensuring adherence without fail.
• Undertake additional tasks as designated, which may involve supporting different areas within the organization.
• Being present on a regular basis is a crucial requirement for this role.

Qualifications:

• Having prior experience in a deli or food service environment is advantageous.
• Having prior experience in operating slicers, scales, and other deli machinery is advantageous.
• Familiarity with deli goods and protocols for maintaining food hygiene.
• A person must be 18 years or older to meet the eligibility requirement.

Environmental Job Conditions:

• Often being on your feet and walking on firm surfaces.
• Periodic need for bending, reaching, and lifting objects up to 30 lbs in weight (assistance necessary for heavier loads).
• Experience changing thermal environments from exposure to appliances like refrigerators, stoves, and chillers.
• Intermittent interaction with disinfectants.
