Job Summary of Produce Operations Clerk:

It is the responsibility of the Produce Operations Clerk to assist the Produce Manager in the efficient operation and financial viability of the produce department.

Responsibilities of Produce Operations Clerk:

• Giving top priority to providing world-class customer service.

• Designing an appealing and functional space within the store that is filled with a plentiful assortment of fresh fruits and vegetables for customers to peruse and buy.
• Assisting the produce department manager in overseeing inventory levels and ordering tasks efficiently.
• Assisting the department manager in managing margins, COGs, and overall department profitability by minimizing shrinkage and maximizing effective purchasing practices.
• Keeping the department running smoothly on a daily basis involves the important role of ensuring that the produce rack is always stocked with fresh and plentiful items throughout the day.
• Sorting, preserving freshness, turning, and effectively handling vegetables and fruits.
• Validating the ordering and receiving of exclusively organic-certified produce.
• Validating that all items currently in stock adhere to the company's prescribed standards.
• Cleaning tools and equipment to meet health department and company standards for hygiene and safety.
• Accepting all incoming orders for produce in alignment with the company's defined criteria and regulations.
• Assisting with unique orders and their completion.
• Aid in the instruction and oversight of personnel within the department.
• Demonstrating actively and passively.
• Assisting the department head in resolving performance issues among staff members.
• Tasks include supervising register functions such as backup cashier duties, processing customer refunds, addressing client concerns, and ensuring coverage for register shift substitutions, including scheduled breaks.
• Securing the safety and protection of both clientele and workforce.
• Handling customer inquiries as per company regulations, which may entail using structured statements or explanations concerning the functions and nutritional support provided by the products.
• Progressively increasing awareness of product details.
• Utilizing email and IS programs as deemed appropriate.
• If there are no other competent staff members available, you may need to see to the completion of DSR and managing the closing cash procedures.
• Working a schedule based on store needs which includes evenings, weekends, holidays. Position requires working five days, 40 hours per week and attending mandatory store meetings.
• This position entails restricted manager on duty functions and is not intended to be the primary manager on duty for the store.

Qualification of Produce Operations Clerk:

• Preference is given to individuals who possess a high school diploma, GED, or an equivalent certification.
• Preference is given to candidates who have spent one year working in a grocery, retail, or produce environment, with additional value placed on a natural foods background.
• One year of overseeing others is preferred.
• Adherence to the requisite food safety training courses and certifications as prescribed by law is vital, and keeping certifications valid and registered when required is essential for compliance.
• Skill in adapting to changing priorities and remaining committed to the task at hand.
• Approach tasks with a feeling of immediacy in finishing them.
• Show proficiency in handling customer interactions.
• Highly methodical and precise, showing a keen eye for detail.
• Competence in adhering to instructions and seeing tasks through.
• Candidates must demonstrate cashier expertise and the ability to accurately count different denominations of money.
• Adept at working with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook

Physical Requirements of Produce Operations Clerk:

• Essential qualifications include the capacity to continuously lift or transport items weighing up to 10 lbs., frequently lift or transport items weighing 11-20 lbs., and occasionally lift or transport items weighing 21-50 lbs. Additionally, there should be the ability to occasionally lift or carry items weighing 51-100 lbs. with support from a team.
• Must be able to exert force regularly for pushing or pulling objects up to 15 lbs and intermittently for items weighing between 16 and 100 lbs.
• Being able to use the computer for data entry and mouse functions is a required skill.
• The ability to consistently walk, stand, utilize precise hand movements, grasp, and stretch outward is required throughout the work period.
• Regularly required to extend arms above shoulder level.
• Should be able to sit, stoop, squat, and scale on occasion as necessary.
