Role and Responsibilities:
As a Self Checkout Team Member, you will play a key role in protecting company assets while ensuring a smooth, positive shopping experience. You will monitor self-checkout activity, assist customers, and help maintain a safe and efficient environment. Core responsibilities include:
- Supervise self-checkout lanes to identify unusual or suspicious transactions.
- Confirm items are scanned and bagged accurately, stepping in to assist customers when needed.
- Respond promptly to Point-of-Sale (POS) alerts and resolve transaction discrepancies.
- Report theft, equipment issues, or suspicious behavior to store leadership immediately.
- Provide courteous and timely support to customers using self-checkout stations.
- Educate customers on checkout procedures to minimize errors and delays.
- Maintain a professional and approachable demeanor to create a welcoming atmosphere.
- Encourage customers to use self-checkout lanes when appropriate.
- Keep the area stocked with supplies including bags, receipt paper, and cleaning materials.
- Clean and sanitize checkout machines and surrounding areas as necessary.
- Assist with collecting and returning shopping carts when required.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to spot discrepancies.
- Excellent customer service skills with a professional, friendly approach.
- Basic computer knowledge to complete online training and operate POS systems.
- Clear communication skills in English; bilingual skills are a plus.
- Ability to follow company policies and directions precisely.
- Dependable, trustworthy, and committed to integrity.
- Ability to remain calm and efficient under pressure.
- Physical ability to stand, walk, lift, push, or carry up to 20 lbs, with occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching, balancing, or climbing up to 4 feet.
Preferred Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED preferred but not required.
- Previous experience in retail or customer service is advantageous.
