Role and Responsibilities:
As a Self-Checkout Associate, you will play a crucial role in safeguarding company assets while ensuring a positive customer experience. You will oversee self-checkout transactions, monitor for irregularities, and provide proactive assistance to customers.
- Vigilantly observe self-checkout stations to identify irregular or suspicious transactions.
- Ensure customers properly scan and bag items, stepping in to verify purchases when necessary.
- Respond promptly to Point-of-Sale (POS) alerts or notifications regarding transaction discrepancies.
- Report incidents of theft, equipment malfunction, or suspicious behavior to store leadership immediately.
- Provide courteous and prompt assistance to customers using self-checkout.
- Educate customers on self-checkout processes to minimize errors and delays.
- Maintain a friendly, approachable demeanor to foster a positive atmosphere.
- Monitor traditional checkout lanes and invite customers to use self-checkout when appropriate.
- Keep the self-checkout area fully stocked with necessary supplies such as bags, receipt paper, and cleaning materials.
- Clean and sanitize self-checkout machines and surrounding areas as needed.
- Assist with returning shopping carts to designated corrals when necessary.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to identify discrepancies.
- Excellent customer service skills with a friendly and professional attitude.
- Basic computer literacy to participate in online training and use POS systems.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English; bilingual skills are a plus.
- Ability to follow instructions and company policies strictly.
- High level of integrity and reliability.
- Ability to handle stressful situations calmly and efficiently.
- Physical capability to stand, walk, lift, push, or carry items up to 20 lbs, and occasionally sit, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or climb up to 4 feet.
Preferred Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED preferred but not required.
- Previous retail or customer service experience is a plus.
