Job Summary of Produce Operations Assistant:

A key role of the Produce Operations Assistant is to assist the Produce Manager in overseeing the productivity and profitability of the produce department.

Responsibilities of Produce Operations Assistant:

• Putting a strong emphasis on delivering top-quality customer service.
• Upholding integrity, accountability, and superior performance while following all regulations.
• Establishing a visually appealing and well-stocked area in the store specifically dedicated to providing customers with a diverse selection of fresh produce for purchase.
• Working alongside the produce department manager to manage inventory levels and place orders effectively.
• Helping the department manager in controlling margin, COGs, and overall department profitability, with a goal to reduce shrinkage and enhance purchasing practices.
• It is crucial to oversee and maintain the department daily, which includes the task of ensuring the produce rack is consistently filled with fresh, diverse items throughout each day.
• Selecting, enhancing the condition, revolving, and adequately storing fresh produce.
• Validating the ordering and receiving of exclusively organic-certified produce.
• Ensuring that all products in inventory meet the company's specified conditions.
• Meeting cleanliness expectations by following health department and company guidelines for cleaning tools and equipment.
• Receiving and managing incoming produce orders in accordance with the company's established norms and practices.
• Organizing special requests and their tracking.
• Supporting in the instruction and supervision of department personnel.
• Presenting engaging and static demos.
• Collaborating with the department manager to enhance performance outcomes in the department.
• Tasks include managing register operations such as backup cash-handling, processing returns, handling customer issues, and ensuring coverage for register shift changes, including scheduled breaks.
• Ensuring the safety and security of both patrons and workers.
• Responding to customer questions according to the company's standards and procedures, which may involve utilizing structured statements to elaborate on product functions and their nutritional support.
• Perpetually advancing product comprehension.
• Utilizing email and IS programs as deemed appropriate.
• The completion of DSR and closing cash processes could become your responsibility in the absence of any other qualified employee.
• Working a schedule based on store needs which includes evenings, weekends, holidays. Position requires working five days, 40 hours per week and attending mandatory store meetings.
• Although there are limited manager on duty functions associated with this position, it is not designated to be the overarching manager on duty for the store.

Qualification of Produce Operations Assistant:

• It is recommended that applicants have a high school diploma, GED, or a similar level of educational attainment.
• Having worked for a year in a grocery, retail, or produce industry is preferred, and candidates with a background in natural foods are preferred.
• One year of experience in a supervisory role is preferred.
• The necessity to pass food safety training courses and certifications as required by law cannot be understated, and it is critical to maintain compliance by keeping certifications up to date and registered if applicable.
• Ability to navigate through shifting priorities while staying focused on the ongoing task.
• Show a keen sense of urgency in meeting deadlines and fulfilling duties.
• Demonstrate exceptional customer handling skills.
• Impeccably organized with an unwavering dedication to meticulous details.
• Capability to take direction and carry out tasks to fulfillment.
• Necessary qualifications include cashier training and the ability to accurately tally cash sums.
• Knowledgeable in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook

Physical Requirements of Produce Operations Assistant:

• The role necessitates the capability to regularly lift or carry objects weighing up to 10 lbs., frequently handle objects weighing 11-20 lbs., and occasionally manage objects weighing 21-50 lbs. Additionally, there should be the ability to occasionally lift or carry objects weighing 51-100 lbs. with the help of a team.
• Must demonstrate the capability to regularly exert force in pushing or pulling objects up to 15 lbs and occasionally handling items weighing between 16 and 100 lbs.
• Performing data entry tasks and using a mouse on the computer is expected at times.
• The role requires the ability to continuously be mobile, stand, use fine motor skills, grasp, bend, twist, turn, and reach outward for the duration of the shift.
• Repeatedly necessary to reach heights above the chest.
• Must possess the agility to occasionally sit, crouch, bend, and climb as needed.
