Job Summary of General Merchandise Associate:
The key objective is to deliver an exceptional customer service experience by overseeing the pricing, inventory management, and presentation of items in the Non-Foods Area, as well as engaging with customers respectfully to aid them in selecting and buying Non-Foods items; to maintain a well-organized, hygienic, and visually appealing department and to carry out additional tasks as needed in a proficient and safe manner following Company guidelines.
Qualifications of General Merchandise Associate:
- Capability to fluently read, write, converse, evaluate, decipher, and comprehend English effectively.
- Competence in performing math functions.
- Essential qualifications involve the capacity to stand and move around for the complete duration of a planned work shift. Also necessary is the ability to stand, flex, revolve, stretch, propel, tug, clamber, and regularly lift 25 pounds, with sporadic lifting of 50 pounds.
- Aptitude to work in varying thermal environments.
- Competence in dealing with a range of fresh, dried, or processed products, spices, and powders without experiencing any allergic side effects.
- Tolerance for dust and cleaning agents while conducting routine housekeeping activities.
- Proficient in engaging customers with a friendly and supportive approach. Capable of collaborating productively with team members.

Responsibilities of General Merchandise Associate:
- Extend a friendly greeting to all visitors and assist them promptly with a polite manner.
- Adhere to prescribed procedures for product reception, price identification, storage arrangement, and restocking to ensure precision in quality, product rotation, and protection.
- Help oversee inventory procurement and upkeep, informing the manager promptly about any shortages in stock.
- Adhere to Department sanitation and quality assurance protocols by completing tasks such as sweeping, mopping, and eliminating cardboard when necessary.
- Efficiently manage the baler and compactor operations. Maintain adherence to Department of Sanitation and QA standards by sanitizing and cleaning work surfaces, tools, and equipment consistently.
- Maintain a clutter-free floor and address any spills promptly. Adhere to the regulatory frameworks of Local, State, and Federal authorities concerning Non-Foods operations. Comply with the guidelines, safety procedures, and security protocols implemented by the Company, as well as the health and civil code regulations at the local, state, and federal levels. Maneuver and transport merchandise regularly, with weights typically around 25 lbs. and occasionally reaching up to 50 lbs.
- Deliver goods from trucks to the Non-Foods Department, with some items weighing 25 lbs and occasionally up to 50 lbs. Occupy the designated work space for the entirety of the scheduled shift, which could surpass 8 hours daily.
- Stay updated on pricing details and be familiar with the store's layout for efficient customer assistance. Present any charitable promotions to customers for their consideration. Follow the company's guidelines on minimizing shrinkage in department operations.
- Follow the Company's policy on attire and grooming by wearing the mandated uniform, name badge, and head covering or method to restrain hair as required. Execute tasks in adherence to the QA guidelines for hand washing and wear disposable gloves when handling food products. Utilize and uphold equipment in alignment with department regulations; promptly report any equipment complications to management.
- Abide by the Company's HAZCOM program guidelines while following the manufacturer's label instructions for the safe and effective application of all chemical items.
- Assist patrons in retrieving merchandise from areas that are hard to reach or in acquiring products that are stored in warehouses or tricky to handle.
- Be well-informed and capable of recognizing the variety of products on the market.
- Consistently replenish and arrange items on store shelves and displays as per tag allocation and department standards to keep them fully stocked, signed, and faced.
- Conclude all departmental training programs. Conduct all responsibilities in accordance with the key ShopRite Service Priorities: Safety, Friendliness, Presentation, and Efficiency.
- Uphold punctuality and attend all work commitments regularly. Be ready to work additional hours if requested.
- Work together harmoniously with team members. To operate balers, forklifts, pallet jacks, and cutting machines, individuals must have reached the age of 18. Complete any other allocated duties.
