Job Summary for Pastry Maker:

This role as a Pastry Maker requires a keen eye for design and a passion for creating delicious confections that delight our customers. By providing top-notch service and crafting visually stunning desserts, you will enhance the overall experience for our guests and ensure that their celebrations are a resounding success. Working as part of the Bakery team means working collaboratively to meet the needs of our customers and maintain high standards of quality in all baked products being served. Your focus will be on preparing and adorning the various pastries and cakes available in the department to always offer the best quality treats.

Job Requirements:

• Prior Experience Needed: Completion of a job-specific skills assessment; 6 to 12 months of experience or the successful finalization of the Giant Eagle Apprenticeship scheme is required
• Attainment of a high school diploma is not a prerequisite for this educational qualification
• Weightlifting Specification: Capable of lifting up to 50 pounds
• Individuals must be at least 18 years old

Job Responsibilities:

• Transport cakes from the prep station to the sales section to fill tables and display cases with pastry products.
• Follow established guidelines to help the store achieve its out-of-stock percentage targets.
• Utilize merchandising techniques that not only drive sales but also leave a lasting impression on customers.
• Receive unique requests from patrons through phone calls and direct inquiries.
• Guarantee the excellence of the items for sale by regularly assessing the sales area for the product's expiration dates and overall condition.
• Maintain a record of daily recognized losses.
• Prioritize safety above all else in every facet of our tasks, ensuring the protection of our staff, customers, and goods.
• Provide exemplary customer service by greeting customers and ensuring they are able to locate the products they are looking for. Bakery Team Members are also expected to have sufficient knowledge to answer questions and make suggestions to our customers.
• Encourage your colleagues and customers by demonstrating a love for cuisine and a commitment to going above and beyond to ensure exceptional service.
• Adhere to the recommended procedures for managing merchandise and machinery in line with food safety and security directives to maintain a safe shopping atmosphere.
• Ensure that equipment, tables, cutlery, surfaces, and the like are kept clean to meet safety and sanitation guidelines.
• Organize and embellish merchandise for the Bakery exhibits and showcases, regularly alternating their positioning and enforcing code dating guidelines to ensure that only the latest items are accessible for customers.
• Ensure compliance with safety measures, sanitation protocols, emergency responses, steritech procedures, correct lifting practices, and tidiness standards to meet departmental expectations.
• Record unique requests for Bakery products with precision to ensure customer delight upon delivery.
• Adhere to departmental guidelines, set up routines, order capture, knowledge of copyright laws, and effective product circulation.
• Always ensure you are up-to-date on the latest product details and processes, such as category-specific information, customized requests, cake options, serving sizes, seasonal offerings, and color blending methods.
• Apply icing to cakes and adorn them with decorative elements using spatulas and pastry bags.
• Organize the icing and materials needed for all cakes and other decorative items by following recipe instructions, measuring out ingredients accurately, and thoroughly combining the elements.
• Help optimize the functionality of Bakery backroom, refrigerator, and freezer through the timely handling of deliveries.
• Use a variety of equipment within the department, such as mixers, weighing scales, airbrush guns, knives, and protective gear including cut-resistant gloves and anti-slip shoes.
• Offer assistance as needed in various capacities.
