Job Summary of Produce Department Support:
By working alongside the Produce Manager, the Produce Department Support helps in the successful operation and financial sustainability of the produce department.
Responsibilities of Produce Department Support:
- Ensuring that providing world-class customer service comes first.

- Building an inviting and convenient produce section that is properly stocked with a variety of fresh and enticing options for customers to shop from.
- Assisting the produce department manager in overseeing inventory levels and ordering tasks efficiently.
- Aiding the department manager in overseeing margin, COGs, and department profitability, with a focus on minimizing losses and improving purchasing strategies.
- Keeping the department running smoothly on a daily basis involves the important role of ensuring that the produce rack is always stocked with fresh and plentiful items throughout the day.
- Choosing, enhancing quality, rotating, and properly storing produce items.
- Ensuring that the procurement and receipt of produce adhere strictly to organic certification standards.
- Confirming that the in-stock inventory meets the established guidelines of the company.
- Following health department and company policies to ensure tools and equipment are cleaned to proper standards.
- Handling incoming orders for produce as per the company's stipulated standards and protocols.
- Supporting personalized requests and their progression.
- Assisting in the education and oversight of personnel within the department.
- Displaying participatory and non-participatory demos.
- Supporting the department manager in identifying and resolving performance deficiencies within the department.
- Operations involve managing register functions such as backup cashiering, overseeing returns, addressing customer grievances, and coordinating register shift changes, including those for scheduled breaks.
- Securing the safety and well-being of clients and staff members.
- Assisting customers with their inquiries in alignment with company standards, which may involve communicating structured statements about product functions and nutritional support.
- Steadily broadening knowledge of products.
- Leveraging email and IS programs as needed.
- In the absence of another qualified employee, you may be tasked with completing DSR activities and finalizing the cash closing processes.
- Working a schedule based on store needs which includes evenings, weekends, holidays. Position requires working five days, 40 hours per week and attending mandatory store meetings.
- While there are some manager on duty tasks associated with this position, it is not intended to be the primary manager on duty for the store.
Qualification of Produce Department Support:
- High school diploma, GED or equivalent preferred.
- 1 year of experience in grocery, retail or produce environment preferred; natural foods background is a plus.
- 1 year of experience supervising others preferred.
- Ability to pass food safety training courses and/or certifications as required by law and maintain compliance by keeping certifications up to date and registered if applicable.
- Ability to manage changing priorities and to stay focused with the task at hand.
- Possess a sense of urgency in the completion of tasks.
- Possess excellent customer service skills.
- Highly organized with great attention to detail.
- Ability to take direction and follow through.
- Must be cashier trained and able to count currency.
- Proficient in MS Word, Excel and Outlook

- The physical requirements of the role involve the ability to constantly lift or move objects up to 10 lbs., frequently lift or move objects weighing 11-20 lbs., and occasionally lift or move objects weighing 21-50 lbs. Additionally, there should be the capacity to occasionally lift or move objects weighing 51-100 lbs. with teamwork.
