Serving in various capacities, from cashier to stocker to customer service representative, requires a strong dedication to service excellence and a consistent display of this value across all job functions. You may be assigned to different departments as needed during your shift, depending on the specific demands of customers and the operational necessities of the business. Under the guidance of store management, you might be engaged in a variety of tasks across different sections within the store:
Responsible for retail operations at the store entrance, including the promotion of goods and the facilitation of customer purchases.
Employed on the sales floor, specifically in the Meat/Frozen area, Produce/Dairy area, and Dry Goods/Culinary Equipment & Supply area
Refilling goods and reorganizing items within each department.
Another opportunity to help out is during unique store occasions such as Vendor Fairs, sales floor revamps, and inventory tasks.
Duties And Responsibilities
Front End:
Build and enhance relationships with the store's customers to create a superior shopping experience at CHEF'STORE. Implement the knowledge and abilities gained from the CHEF'STORE Way training to embody the desired behavior while interacting with customers.
Handle cash, credit, and check transactions efficiently in the point of sale (POS) system. This includes processing payments accurately, providing correct change, and verifying the authenticity of checks. Record all transactions in the system and close out the cash register at the end of the shift, ensuring all funds balance correctly.
Carry out the process of moving all purchased goods from one cart to another at the point of sale, coupled with a visual scrutiny to identify any potential product interference.
Fulfill the role of a receipt inspector by confirming that the contents of the shopping cart align with the items listed on the receipt as customers exit the establishment.
Carry out the necessary tasks for opening and closing procedures at the front end during the assigned shift.
Sales Floor And Stocking:
Sustain a persistent effort towards boosting sales performance while effectively controlling loss through vigilant management. Engage with patrons to assist them in locating the necessary items and introduce them to the range of supplementary amenities offered at the retail outlet.
Help with the reception of inventory shipments and the upkeep of shelves in an orderly manner, making sure to rotate products correctly and conduct quality checks. Inform store management about any depleted stock levels.
Verify that all goods are correctly marked by using a blaster for items that cannot be scanned, applying weight labels to items sold by weight, and affixing PLU tags to produce.
Stock the sales floor daily by relocating merchandise from the overstock shelves to the display shelves. Follow the first in, first out rule when stocking to maintain the freshness of products and ensure proper rotation. Replenish empty spaces on the shelves with new products as needed. Utilize reach trucks and pallet jacks for efficient handling and restocking operations.
Employ computer programs such as Microsoft Word and Excel, and any other necessary proprietary tools.
Ensure that every product is easily reachable, visually attractive, and always ready for purchase.
Assist in implementing alterations to pricing as directed by the Pricing Manager and Store Leadership.
Aid in the commencement and conclusion tasks within the store setting.
Take part in the inventory and cycle count activities when necessary.
Customer Courtesy:
Uphold the upkeep of the facility and adhere to safety guidelines to create a safe space for both customers and employees. Report any safety hazards within the store to management and take corrective action whenever feasible.
Keep the sales area, front end, and bathrooms clean by employing cleaning instruments for assistance.
Keep the parking lot and store entry area clean and well-maintained.
Bring in carts from the parking area and designated cart locations, making sure they are in good working order, and return them to the specified spot.
Relationships:
The person in this position needs to communicate with employees across different levels of the company's hierarchy.
Interacting with customers and various service and product vendors is a necessary part of the job.
Work Environment:
The role encompasses working in a retail establishment that is open to the public, potentially leading to exposure to external weather elements, such as adverse weather conditions. The noise level present in the working environment is typically moderate. Most tasks are completed on a level ground; however, there may be instances where employees are required to use a ladder or work at an elevated position. The temperature inside the store can range from -10 to 85 degrees. Direct interaction with customers is an essential component of the job role.
Minimum Qualifications:
Candidates must have at least half a year to one year of experience working in a retail environment, either as a cashier or in stocking positions.
Candidates with prior experience in retail sales or customer service, totaling a minimum of one year, are preferred.
