Job Summary of Stock Handling Assistant:

The Stock Handling Assistant assists the Receiving Manager with the day-to-day functions of the receiving department. This role includes unloading shipments, inspecting products, and arranging items in the appropriate locations, ensuring accurate counts, correct labeling, and proper storage per company standards.

Responsibilities of Stock Handling Assistant:

• Focusing on offering top-tier customer service above everything else.

• Assisting the receiving department manager in ensuring the proper receipt of all incoming items by checking dates, confirming accuracy, and assessing for any damage.
• Verifying all incoming and outgoing shipments.
• Methodically preparing products for prompt delivery and display in the retail environment.
• Punctual and precise management of purchase orders, RPOs, mispicks, invoices, and paperwork.
• Investigating and resolving all discrepancies observed.
• Liaising with department managers to discuss delivery challenges and vendor inventory deficiencies.
• Giving attention to particular orders that were placed.
• Using a forklift and pallet jack in accordance with job responsibilities.
• Keeping the back room neat and structured is vital.
• Engaging with managers to address performance-related challenges within the department.
• Supporting store commencement and conclusion tasks, which include responsibilities like preparing the Daily Sales Report (DSR) and managing cash transactions, as well as supervising the cashier closeout duties.
• Tasks related to register operations include assisting with cashier duties, processing customer returns, resolving customer issues, and managing register shift changes by covering for scheduled breaks and coordinating staff rotations for seamless transitions.
• Safeguarding customers and employees by maintaining safety and security protocols.
• Supporting in the instruction and observation of department employees, ensuring tasks are delegated and followed through.
• Proactively providing additional assistance and reinforcement in the store, and assisting on the sales floor following the completion of receiving duties.
• Responding to customer inquiries while adhering to company standards, which may involve incorporating Structure/Function statements or statements highlighting the nutritional benefits of the product.
• Perpetually deepening understanding of products.
• Making use of SAP and inventory management software for streamlined inventory management, complemented by email communication and other relevant IS tools as required.
• The job necessitates working a schedule based on the store's needs, potentially including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Employees must work a full-time schedule of 40 hours over five days per week, as well as participate in required store meetings.
• While this role involves some managerial tasks, it is not intended to be the primary manager on duty for the store.

Qualifications of Stock Handling Assistant:

• Individuals with a High School diploma, GED, or a comparable certification are encouraged to apply.
• Candidates who have worked in a grocery or retail environment, particularly in receiving, for one year are preferred, and those with knowledge of natural foods are at an advantage.
• Candidates who have supervised others for at least one year are preferred.
• Achieving forklift certification allows individuals to obtain the necessary permission to operate a forklift in a safe manner.
• Achieving the passing criteria for food safety training courses and certifications as mandated by law and maintaining compliance through appropriate registration and renewal procedures.
• Skill in handling varying priorities and keeping focused on the task is essential.
• Handle tasks promptly to convey a strong sense of urgency.
• Excel in delivering high-quality customer service.

Physical Requirements of Stock Handling Assistant:

• Must have the ability to constantly lift or carry up to 10 lbs., frequently lift or carry 11-20 lbs., and occasionally lift or carry 21-50 lbs. Must also have the ability to occasionally lift or carry 51-100 lbs. with a team lift.
• The incumbent should have the capacity to frequently apply strength to transport items weighing up to 15 lbs. and occasionally manage objects weighing from 16 to 100 lbs.
• Need to be capable of using the computer at times for data entry and mouse navigation.
• The job role entails the ability to consistently move, stand, manipulate objects with precision, hold onto items, flex, pivot, rotate, and extend outward during the entire work shift.
• Regularly extending arms above shoulder height is essential.
• Necessary to have the ability to sit, squat, kneel, and climb when the need arises.
• The role involves consistent work with sharp tools and gear, exposure to dust, fumes, and navigating congested work areas.
• Expected to be able to work in conditions that include noise, cold temperatures, heat, dampness, humidity, outdoor elements, elevated areas, and contact stress occasionally.
