Job Summary of Produce Department Clerk:
In the capacity of a Produce Department Clerk, your primary focus revolves around enriching the customer experience by engaging in activities such as pricing, stocking, and organizing products in the Produce Department. Your main responsibilities entail preserving a clean, well-arranged, and appealing department layout to ensure that the produce remains fresh, correctly handled, and attractively exhibited. Moreover, you will play a crucial role in handling deliveries, abiding by food safety regulations, and supporting departmental operations while promoting company endeavors and delivering courteous customer care.
Responsibilities of Produce Department Clerk:
- Greet all Customers and provide them with prompt, courteous service and assistance.
- Promote for sale any current charitable promotions to Customers.
- Maintain a clean, neat, organized, and safe work environment.
- Follow approved procedures for receiving, code dating, storing, and restocking produce to ensure quality and freshness.
- Be knowledgeable in and able to differentiate between various types of produce, including taste, seasonality, use, and pricing differences.
- Keep display cases and other merchandising areas stocked, signed, and attractively arranged.
- Control freshness, quality, and temperature of products by following safe food handling practices.
- Handle spoiled or damaged products according to Company policy.
- Regularly lift, pull, push, and rotate merchandise that weighs 25 lbs., and occasionally up to 60 lbs.
- Unload deliveries and transport merchandise to the Produce Department using appropriate equipment.
- Check refrigeration and storage areas for proper performance and report issues immediately.
- Utilize and maintain department equipment properly; report equipment problems promptly.
- Maintain sanitation standards by sweeping, mopping, and removing refuse as needed.
- Operate baler and compactor in accordance with safety guidelines.
- Dress and groom according to Company policy, including uniform, name badge, and hair restraint requirements.
- Use disposable gloves and follow QA hand washing standards when handling food.
- Perform all duties in accordance with Company rules, policies, safety requirements, and local, state, and federal regulations.
- Adhere to HAZCOM procedures and manufacturer guidelines for safe use of chemical products.
- Understand and follow all Country of Origin Label (C.O.O.L.) regulations for produce items.
- Understand and adhere to Company shrink guidelines for the Produce Department.
- Complete all applicable department training programs.
- Perform all duties in accordance with ShopRite Service Priorities (Safety, Friendliness, Presentation, and Efficiency).
- Stand at assigned workstation for the duration of scheduled shift, which may exceed 8 hours.
- Maintain punctual and regular attendance.
- Work overtime as assigned.
- Work cooperatively with others.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications of Produce Department Clerk:
- The operation of baling equipment, forklift trucks, and slicers is limited to individuals who are 18 years old and above.
- Skill in adeptly understanding, analyzing, interpreting, reading, writing, and speaking in English.
- Skill in conducting elementary mathematical computations.
- Skill in being upright and mobile for the extent of the scheduled work shift.
- Capability to stand, bend, rotate, stretch, exert pressure, pull, and regularly hoist 25 pounds, occasionally lifting up to 60 pounds.
- Competence to work in a range of temperatures, from refrigerated to high-humidity environments.
- Proficiency in dealing with a range of fresh, dried, or processed products, spices, and powders without experiencing any detrimental impacts.
- Aptitude to bear dust and cleaning agents when carrying out day-to-day housekeeping chores.
- Proficiency in engaging with patrons in a welcoming and assisting fashion.
- Aptitude for engaging in cooperative efforts with colleagues.
- Capability to fulfill all designated work hours and abide by regulations related to time management and attendance.
