Job Summary of Merchandise Receiving Assistant:
The Merchandise Receiving Assistant is responsible for assisting the Receiving Manager in the successful operation of the receiving department.The Merchandise Receiving Assistant is responsible for supporting the receiving department by unloading, inspecting, and organizing incoming shipments. This role ensures that all products are accurately counted, properly labeled, and stored in designated areas according to company standards.
Responsibilities of Merchandise Receiving Assistant:
- Making customer satisfaction a top priority in service delivery.
- Exhibiting honesty, responsibility, and excellence and adhering to all protocols.
- Collaborating with the receiving department manager to ensure the correct reception of all incoming products, which includes tasks such as verifying dates, checking accuracy, and inspecting for damage.
- Scrutinizing incoming and outgoing inventory.
- Planning and executing the staging of products for quick and efficient delivery to the sales floor.
- Timely and precise handling of purchase orders, return purchase orders, mispicks, invoices, and documentation tasks.
- Scrutinizing and handling all discrepancies that arise.
- Conversing with department managers to relay information on delivery complications and vendor stock inadequacies.
- Tracking the status of individualized purchases.
- Executing responsibilities relating to forklift and pallet jack operation.
- Maintaining cleanliness and organization in the back room is a top priority.
- Collaborating with department managers on addressing performance deficiencies in the unit.
- Supporting the activities associated with store opening and closing, which involve tasks like generating the Daily Sales Report (DSR) and handling cash transactions, as well as overseeing the cashier closeout duties.
- Managing register duties, which include providing backup cashiering support, processing returns, addressing customer concerns, and handling register shift changes by filling in during scheduled breaks and ensuring smooth transitions between shifts.
- Prioritizing the protection and security of customers and employees alike.
- Supporting the training and monitoring of department personnel by assigning tasks and ensuring they are carried out.
- Initiating additional support and assistance in the store, and backing up on the sales floor after finishing receiving tasks.
- Addressing customer concerns based on established company protocols, which may involve using Structure/Function statements or statements related to the product's nutritional support to provide comprehensive information.
- Constantly evolving product knowledge.
- Incorporating the use of SAP and inventory management software, along with sending emails and utilizing other IS software when needed.
- The schedule will be determined by store needs, with shifts potentially including evenings, weekends, and holidays. The role involves a full-time commitment to working five days a week, amounting to a total of 40 hours, as well as compulsory attendance at store meetings.
- The role is not expected to function as the main manager on duty but has specific limitations in its managerial responsibilities.
Qualifications of Merchandise Receiving Assistant:
- High School diploma, GED or equivalent preferred.
- 1 year of experience in grocery/retail or receiving environment preferred; natural foods background is a plus.
- 1 year of experience supervising others preferred.
- Ability to obtain forklift certification.
- Ability to pass food safety training courses and/or certifications as required by law and maintain compliance by keeping certifications up to date and registered if applicable.
- Ability to manage changing priorities and to stay focused with the task at hand.
- Possess a sense of urgency in the completion of tasks.
- Possess excellent customer service skills.
- Highly organized with great attention to detail.
- Ability to take direction and follow through.
- Must be cashier trained and able to count currency.
- Proficient in MS Word, Excel and Outlook.
