Role and Responsibilities:
As part of the seafood team, your primary duties will involve contributing to the smooth running of the seafood department by guaranteeing the freshness of products, enforcing food safety regulations, and offering top-notch service to patrons.
- Provide friendly and knowledgeable service to those seeking assistance.
- Organize and refill seafood cabinets, ensuring that items are rotated, labeled, and showcased correctly.
- Assist individuals in deciding on seafood options, offering suggestions for cooking methods, and catering to any special requests they make.
- Abide by the recommended procedures for ensuring food safety, sanitation, and precise labeling.
- Maintain strict oversight on product quality to ensure swift removal of items that cannot be sold.
- Help drive the seafood team leadership towards achieving their sales, margin, and labor performance targets.
- Help manage stock levels, organize excess inventory, and uphold departmental cleanliness standards.
- Adhere to the standard protocols and processes of the store and department.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Possesses impressive customer service skills and adept at effective communication techniques.
- Adept at managing tasks with urgency in a rapidly moving retail setting.
- Keen interest in acquiring proficiency in seafood handling, cutting, and preparation techniques.
- Following directions, policies, and protocols pertaining to food safety is a fundamental requirement.
- Ability to adjust schedule to accommodate night shifts, weekends, and holidays when necessary.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in retail, grocery, or food service is desirable but not obligatory.
Physical Prerequisites and Working Environment:
- Skill in handling items up to 50 pounds in weight.
- Remaining upright or mobile for 6 to 8 hours while on duty.
- Regularly engaging in bending, squatting, twisting, and reaching motions.
- Competence in adapting to work in wet and cold conditions found in refrigerators and freezers.
- Coming into contact with FDA-sanctioned cleaning chemicals.
- The employment of knives, cutting tools, and additional gear for seafood preparation.
Compensation and Benefits:
Employees in this role generally begin with a pay rate of $15.00 hourly and have the opportunity to access Whole Foods Market's extensive benefits program, known as Whole Benefits.
