Retail Grocery Clerk

Role and Responsibilities:

As a Retail Grocery Clerk at Giant Food, you will be responsible for keeping shelves well-stocked, organized, and clean to provide an exceptional shopping experience. You will work across multiple departments, including produce, dairy, frozen, and general grocery, supporting smooth and customer-focused store operations.

• Replenish shelves, displays, and endcaps to maintain consistent product availability.
• Follow FIFO (First In, First Out) procedures to ensure product quality and freshness.
• Verify that all items are correctly priced and labeled.
• Set up and maintain promotional displays and signage as directed by management.
• Assist customers in locating items and provide helpful guidance.
• Offer friendly and knowledgeable service to enhance the shopping experience.
• Handle minor customer concerns or escalate issues to supervisors as needed.
• Maintain clean and organized work areas, including shelves, floors, and spill zones.
• Keep storage and backroom areas orderly and functional.
• Notify management of low-stock or out-of-stock products promptly.
• Participate in regular inventory counts and audits.
• Check product dates and remove expired or damaged items from shelves.
• Collaborate effectively with team members, supervisors, and other departments.
• Provide assistance in other departments as assigned by store leadership.
• Support overall store operations and contribute to a team-oriented work environment.

Required Skills and Experience:

• Minimum age of 16 years (18 years for certain departments).
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred but not required.
• Previous retail or grocery experience is helpful but not mandatory.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, and carry items up to 50 lbs.
• Comfortable working in refrigerated sections, such as dairy and frozen areas.
• Availability for flexible shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Strong communication and customer service abilities.
• Basic math and reading comprehension skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in grocery, retail, or other customer-facing roles.
• Knowledge of inventory tracking or merchandising practices.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a team.
