Job Summary of General Merchandise Team Member:

The key objective is to deliver an exceptional customer service experience by overseeing the pricing, inventory management, and presentation of items in the Non-Foods Area, as well as engaging with customers respectfully to aid them in selecting and buying Non-Foods items; to maintain a well-organized, hygienic, and visually appealing department and to carry out additional tasks as needed in a proficient and safe manner following Company guidelines.

Qualifications of General Merchandise Team Member:

• Skill in effectively utilizing English through reading, writing, speaking, analyzing, interpreting, and comprehending the language proficiently.
• Talent for performing math computations.
• Ability to stand and walk for the entire duration of the shift is required. Also, the capacity to bend, twist, reach, push, pull, climb, lift 25 pounds regularly, and occasionally lift 50 pounds is essential.
• Skillset to perform well in fluctuating thermal conditions.
• Skill in handling fresh, dried, or processed goods, spices, and powdered substances without experiencing allergic reactions.
• Tolerance for dust and household cleaning products during routine cleaning sessions.
• Skillful in providing friendly and supportive customer interactions. Proficient in working effectively as part of a team.
• Demonstrating the ability to adhere to all specified work shifts and follow the guidelines concerning timeliness and attendance policies.

Responsibilities of General Merchandise Team Member:

• Welcome and assist every client promptly and respectfully.
• Adhere to authorized methods for accepting merchandise, labeling with prices, organizing, and replenishing inventory, in order to maintain precision in quality, product rotation, and safeguarding.
• Adhere to Company guidelines for handling damaged items and assist in regulating the quantity of impaired products.
• Maintain the cleanliness and adherence to quality assurance standards in the Department by carrying out activities like sweeping, mopping, and managing cardboard disposal as needed.
• Efficiently manage the baler and compactor operations. Maintain adherence to Department of Sanitation and QA standards by sanitizing and cleaning work surfaces, tools, and equipment consistently.
• Ensure the area is free of debris or spills at all times. Carry out duties following the Non-Foods operation regulations outlined by Local, State, and Federal regulations. Adhere to the policies, safety measures, and security standards of the Company, as well as all relevant health and civil code regulations at different governmental levels. Handle merchandise by lifting, pulling, pushing, and rotating items weighing around 25 lbs., occasionally handling loads of up to 50 lbs.
• Carry out unloading of trucks and movement of items to the Non-Foods Department weighing 25 lbs, occasionally increasing to 50 lbs. Maintain position in the designated work zone throughout the scheduled shift, which might extend beyond 8 hours daily.
• Acquaint yourself with pricing information and the store's item distribution. Encourage customers to take part in any charitable promotions available. Observe the company's protocols for reducing shrink in department operations.
• Comply with the Company's dress code requirements by wearing the designated uniform, name badge, and headwear or hair containment in accordance with the policy. Execute tasks in accordance with the QA hand washing standards and wear disposable gloves when in contact with food products. Utilize and maintain equipment as demanded by the department's guidelines; communicate any equipment problems immediately.
• Abide by the Company's HAZCOM program requirements while strictly adhering to the manufacturer's label instructions for the safe and effective application of chemical products.
• Support clients in retrieving items from hard-to-reach areas or in obtaining products that are stored in warehouses and may be challenging for them to handle.
• Possess a comprehensive understanding of the various types of merchandise and their differences.
• Maintain the full stock and proper presentation of store shelves and displays by adhering to tag allocation and department standards through regular stocking, signing, and facing.
• Successfully complete all department training requirements. Ensure all actions reflect the core ShopRite Service Priorities: Safety, Friendliness, Presentation, and Efficiency.
• Demonstrate regular and punctual attendance at work. Be ready to work overtime when called upon.
• Collaborate effectively with fellow workers. Applicants must be 18 years old or above to use balers, forklifts, pallet jacks, and cutting devices. Carry out any other duties assigned.
