Job Summary of Store Operations Manager:

The role of the Store Operations Manager is to manage the day-to-day operations of the store and ensure its profitability by training, supervising, and monitoring all department staff.

Responsibilities of Store Operations Manager:

  • Clients are acknowledged and supported in accordance with the company's expectations for exceptional customer care.
  • Professionalism and effective leadership are key expectations for all company managers when overseeing their staff.
  • The company ensures that customer complaints are managed in accordance with its policies.
  • The store creates an inviting atmosphere that encourages browsing and shopping.
  • The products that are in demand are currently in inventory.
  • Special orders are processed correctly and in compliance with company guidelines.
  • Maintains compliance with company protocols for phone etiquette and actively engages with customers on the sales floor, supervising employees and tending to departmental needs for a minimum of 75% of their shift.
  • Teaching staff members the art of exceptional customer service delivery and ensuring they are responsible for their performance.
  • Checking that the staff members have the necessary food safety certifications and registration as per state and county regulations.
  • The Assistant Store Manager is responsible for ensuring that the store is meeting and/or exceeding expectations in the following areas:
  • Evaluation of sales performance in relation to labor hours utilizing the Sales per Labor Hour Ratio
  • Typical Ticket Value, Quantity of Customers, and Expenditure on Sold Goods within Produce Sales
  • EBITDA
  • Confirms orders are placed with the correct vendors to ensure receipt of applicable discounts and preservation of profit levels.
  • Maintains in-stock conditions to align with organizational benchmarks
  • Supervising the combination of products available, such as:
  • Consistent monitoring of departments to uphold top-selling items and phase out extremely slow-moving products
  • New items are continuously introduced as part of the company's regulations.
  • Maintains proper rotation and stocking of perishable goods in compliance with company protocols.
  • Markdowns are controlled based on the set regulations within the company.
  • Tasked with supporting the Store Manager in the recruitment, education, and supervision of all store employees in accordance with company policies.
  • Personnel are trained, given assignments, and responsible for task execution.
  • Confirms that the master and daily schedules are correct, comprehensive, and fulfill the store's requirements. Ensures the timely posting of schedules and assigns daily tasks using the task sheets designated by the company.
  • Works alongside department managers to distribute staff resources efficiently for daily operations.
  • Educates and oversees the staff to promote a unified store image and provide assistance to customers throughout the establishment.
  • Works with managers in different departments to ensure that staff members are trained in a variety of tasks.
  • Partners with staff to ensure adequate product knowledge to meet customers' needs, training staff on where to find answers to customer questions by utilizing store resources.
  • Aids the Store Manager in finalizing and executing performance assessments for all store personnel with the participation of department supervisors. Assists in approving salary raises when deemed fitting.
  • Manages the interview process and selects candidates for employment with collaborative input from department managers.
  • Manages all performance and disciplinary matters effectively, working alongside Human Resources for guidance and assistance.
  • Ensures transparent and effective communication with store staff members, such as organizing monthly team meetings and distributing important company information.
  • Required to guarantee compliance with safety regulations without fail.
  • Ensures timely completion of all Ulti-time edits.
  • Tasked with supporting the Store Manager in educating, guiding, and fostering the growth of store employees.
  • He/she inspires staff members to expand their knowledge about nutrition and product details.
  • The individual is responsible for addressing customer queries in adherence to company guidelines, which may require incorporating Structure/Function statements and statements concerning nutritional benefits into the responses.
  • Accomplishes operational tasks such as adhering to daily schedules, completing checklists, and handling opening and closing responsibilities.
  • Ensures that the necessary store paperwork and reports are finalized on time, including the Monthly Manager's Report.
  • Completes the DSR and Manager's Cash with effectiveness and precision.
  • Handles incoming calls from department supervisors during work hours and supports with organizing staff breaks.
  • Addressing disruptions in daily business activities, such as managing unwanted individuals on the premises, tackling solicitation issues, responding to sudden weather emergencies, and dealing with improper restroom usage.
  • Follows a timetable that is determined by the needs of the store, which may entail working evenings and weekends, with a set schedule of 45 hours per week.
  • Provides mentoring to employees on being encouraging of choices determined by the home office, pays attention to directives from headquarters, and fulfills responsibilities accurately.
  • Reads and complies with messages (memoranda, telefacsimiles, electronic correspondence) from the main office while off-site.
  • Maintains a level of adaptability to fulfill work demands effectively.
  • It is a common expectation for managers to lead by example in the workplace, showcasing the level of excellence needed in job tasks and professional conduct.

Qualification of Store Operations Manager:

  • High school diploma or GED required 1-2 years management experience in grocery and/or related retail experience, natural foods industry a plus.
  • Able to manage changing priorities.
  • Ability to pass applicable food safety training courses and/or testing to obtain certifications as required by state and/or county law.
  • Must be able to obtain forklift certification.
  • Maintain compliance by keeping food safety certifications up to date through continuing education and registered with the appropriate agency if applicable.
  • Possesses a sense of urgency in the completing tasks and is highly organized.
  • Possesses excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to take direction and follow through.
  • Must be cashier trained.
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel and Outlook required.
