Cashier

Job Summary:

The Cashier provides a friendly, efficient, and accurate checkout experience for our members. This role is responsible for processing purchases, handling payments, and promoting BJ’s membership options, all while maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the front end area.

Qualifications:

• Basic math and cash-handling skills preferred.
• Prior cashier, retail, or customer service experience preferred.
• Strong communication and customer engagement skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.

Major Tasks, Responsibilities, and Key Accountabilities:

• Provides excellent member service by greeting members, processing purchases efficiently, and addressing questions courteously.
• Scans merchandise through the POS system to ensure accurate pricing and inventory tracking.
• Processes various payment types including cash, check, credit, and mobile transactions.
• Offers and explains membership benefits, renewals, and upgrades such as BJ’s Loyalty and EASY Renewal programs.
• Issues receipts or change and ensures all transactions are completed accurately.
• Assists members at self-checkout and scan-and-pay stations, troubleshooting basic technical issues.
• Maintains cleanliness of the front-end area, registers, and member checkout lanes.
• Stays current on promotions and advertisements to inform members of savings and special offers.
• Follows all club policies and procedures to ensure operational excellence and member satisfaction.
• Performs additional duties as assigned, including assisting in other departments as needed.
• Regular, predictable, full attendance is an essential function of this position.

Environmental Job Conditions:

• Frequent standing and walking on hard surfaces.
• Occasional bending, reaching, and lifting up to 30 lbs (heavier items with assistance).
• Primarily indoor environment with minimal exposure to temperature changes or loud noise.
• Occasional exposure to cleaning agents.
