As a Grocery Manager at Safeway, you will play a crucial role in maintaining store operations. This position requires a blend of leadership, customer service, and hands-on operational skills. The role involves overseeing a team, ensuring a clean and safe store environment, and handling a variety of tasks from stocking shelves to assisting customers and managing the front end. The successful candidate will be a key holder, responsible for store operations and team supervision, especially during evening shifts or when senior management is not present. This is a dynamic position for someone who is ready to lead by example and contribute to a positive and efficient retail environment.

• Capable of following and executing instructions precisely.
• A comprehensive understanding of various store functions and departments.
• The capacity to work effectively without direct supervision.
• Familiarity with standard retail equipment, including but not limited to, grocery carts, box cutters, cash registers, credit card readers, and pallet jacks.
• Physical capacity for lifting up to 35 lbs. occasionally and carrying up to 50 lbs. on a rare basis.
• Ability to push/pull items weighing 11-20 lbs. occasionally.
• Requires constant reaching at knee, waist, and shoulder height.
• Occasional reaching overhead is required.
• Primary work posture is standing, with frequent walking throughout the shift.
• Occasional kneeling or stooping may be necessary.
• Constant handling, grasping, and repetitive motions involved in stocking and arranging products.
• Requires frequent use of fine motor skills.
• Good near vision is necessary for operating equipment and handling transactions.

Benefits:

• The starting wage ranges from $20.00 to $24.15 per hour, or the local minimum wage, whichever is higher.
• Initial pay rates are influenced by factors like location, previous experience, qualifications, and any relevant collective bargaining agreements.

Responsibilities:

• Assume responsibility for the store's operations in the absence of the Store Manager and Assistant Managers, with the authority to make decisions to maximize profitability and efficiency.
• Supervise and provide guidance to store employees, typically during night shifts.
• Perform the duties of a Cashier-Checker when needed.
• Flexibility to work in various store departments as required.
• Provide exceptional customer service consistent with company policies and the scope of the role.
• Manage and resolve emergencies, customer complaints, and incidents involving employees or customers.
• Maintain a thorough knowledge of all company policies and procedures.
• Monitor the sales floor to ensure excellent customer service and product availability.
• Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
• Support other cashiers with technical issues related to registers, scanners, and computers.
• Handle basic office tasks to support both customers and staff.
• Operate the electronic cash register to process customer transactions.
• Accurately receive payments and provide correct change.
• Bag groceries and assist with carrying them to the cart.
• Offer and perform carry-out assistance if a Courtesy Clerk is not available.
• May be responsible for performing end-of-day office functions, counting out-of-stock products, and counting cash tills at the end of shifts.
• Perform other duties as assigned by management.
