Job Summary of Retail Sales Manager:

Ensuring the store operates successfully and profitably, the Retail Sales Manager supervises, directs, and trains all department staff.

Responsibilities of Retail Sales Manager:

  • Patrons are greeted and assisted according to the outlined criteria for outstanding customer service within the company.
  • Providing appropriate leadership and demonstrating professionalism are core expectations for all company managers towards their staff.
  • The company ensures that customer complaints are addressed according to its established guidelines.
  • Customers are drawn to the store's inviting atmosphere, making it a popular shopping destination.
  • The products customers want to purchase are available and ready to be bought.
  • Special orders are processed correctly and follow the relevant company policies.
  • Meets company expectations for phone call management and focuses the majority of their work time on the sales floor assisting customers, coordinating staff, and overseeing departmental functions.
  • Providing guidance on delivering exemplary customer service and implementing a system to track and enforce staff accountability.
  • Making certain that the staff holds the appropriate food safety certifications and registration according to state and county guidelines.
  • The Retail Sales Manager is responsible for ensuring that the store is meeting and/or exceeding expectations in the following areas:
  • Utilizing the Sales per Labor Hour Ratio as a metric to enhance operational efficiency and sales effectiveness
  • Mean Purchasing Price, Client Base, and Expenditure on Sold Produce Items
  • EBITDA
  • Validates the selection of vendors for ordering products to access the appropriate discounts and ensure profit margins remain unaffected.
  • Maintains in-stock conditions in accordance with company requirements
  • Observing the blend of products available, such as:
  • Consistent monitoring of departments to retain high-performing products and discontinue those that are not selling well
  • The company's standard procedure includes the introduction of new products.
  • Adheres to company guidelines by ensuring the rotation and stocking of perishables are conducted appropriately.
  • Markdowns are governed based on the company's internal standards.
  • Charged with assisting the Store Manager in managing the hiring, training, and supervision of all store employees per company standards.
  • Conducts training for personnel, assigns tasks, and enforces accountability in task execution.
  • Guarantees the accuracy and completeness of both the master and daily schedules to meet the store's needs. Ensures timely posting of schedules and assignment of daily tasks following the company's task sheets.
  • Collaborates with department supervisors to distribute staff resources for daily operational requirements.
  • Guides and monitors the team to ensure the store is perceived as a whole and assists customers in various departments.
  • Works hand in hand with department managers to facilitate the cross-training of staff members for task accomplishment.
  • Partners with staff to ensure adequate product knowledge to meet customers' needs, training staff on where to find answers to customer questions by utilizing store resources.
  • Collaborates with the Store Manager in finalizing and executing staff performance evaluations with input from department managers. Assists in granting salary increases if warranted.
  • Assists in the selection and recruitment of new hires based on input from department managers to fulfill store needs.
  • Resolves all performance and disciplinary concerns correctly and on time, with the support of Human Resources as needed.
  • Maintains transparent and effective communication with store personnel by assisting in monthly staff meetings and ensuring the dissemination of company information and news.
  • Responsible for upholding safety guidelines rigorously.
  • Ensures that Ulti-time edits are completed within the expected timeframe.
  • In charge of aiding the Store Manager in educating, advising, and enhancing the capabilities of store team members.
  • There is a push for employees to enhance their grasp of nutrition and product information.
  • He or she, alongside store personnel, responds to customer inquiries in adherence to company regulations, incorporating Structure/Function statements and statements of nutritional support as necessary.
  • Complies with operational duties effectively by managing daily schedules, checklists, and opening and closing responsibilities.
  • Verifies the timely completion of store paperwork and reports, particularly the Monthly Manager's Report.
  • Accurately completes the DSR and Manager's Cash tasks efficiently.
  • Takes care of department manager inquiries during duty hours and supports in arranging coverage for lunches and breaks.
  • Handling business disruptions that may occur intermittently, including managing loitering individuals, addressing solicitation concerns, responding to sudden weather emergencies, and ensuring proper restroom use.
  • Works hours as scheduled by the store, including evenings and weekends, with a total of 45 hours per week.
  • Mentors employees on how to demonstrate support for decisions determined by the home office, carefully listens to guidance from headquarters, and executes assigned responsibilities accurately.
  • Interprets and adheres to notices (memos, facsimiles, emails) from the home base while in a remote work setting.
  • Remains flexible to changing work demands in order to accomplish goals.
  • The role of a manager includes being a leader within the workplace, showcasing the expected standard of excellence through their job performance and professional behavior.

Qualification of Retail Sales Manager:

  • High school diploma or GED required 1-2 years management experience in grocery and/or related retail experience, natural foods industry a plus.
  • Competent at handling changing focus requirements.
  • Acquiring the mandatory certifications by successfully completing relevant food safety training courses and passing evaluations in accordance with state and county regulations.
  • Having forklift certification is a prerequisite for operating the equipment.
  • Ensure adherence to food safety standards by updating your certifications through continuous education and registering with the appropriate governing body when required.
  • Is adept at swiftly completing tasks with precision and demonstrates exceptional organizational prowess.
  • Displays superior customer service skills.
  • Capability to take guidance and see tasks through to the end.
  • Proficient in cashier tasks with training.
  • Familiarity with MS Word, Excel, and Outlook required.
