Job Summary of Freight Receiving Assistant:

The role of the Freight Receiving Assistant is to aid the Receiving Manager in the efficient functioning of the receiving department. The primary duties of the Freight Receiving Assistant include assisting with the unloading, inspection, and arrangement of incoming deliveries. It is vital for this position to guarantee the precise counting, correct labeling, and appropriate storage of all items in specified locations as per the organization's guidelines.

Responsibilities of Freight Receiving Assistant:

• Providing world-class customer service as a number one priority.

• Assisting the receiving department manager in accurately receiving all incoming products including date, accuracy and damage checking.
• Scanning all incoming and outgoing product.
• Staging products for efficient delivery to the sales floor.
• Processing POs, RPOs, mispicks, invoices and paperwork timely and accurately.
• Researching and processing all discrepancies.
• Communicating with department managers regarding delivery issues and vendor out-of-stocks.
• Following up on special orders.
• Operating a forklift and pallet jack as required.
• Maintaining a clean and organized back room.
• Working with the department managers to address performance issues within the department.
• Supporting store opening and closing activities including Daily Sales Report (DSR) and cash handling and cashier closeout responsibilities.
• Handling register functions including backup cashiering, managing customer returns, addressing customer complaints, and covering register shift changes, including those for scheduled breaks.
• Maintaining the safety and security of customers and employees.
• Assisting in training and monitoring of department personnel including assigning and following up on tasks.
• Taking the initiative to provide additional help and backup in the store and providing store backup on the sales floor when receiving duties are complete.
• Answering customer questions per company standards and policies, including the use of Structure/Function statements and/or statements of nutritional support.
• Continually increasing product knowledge.
• Using SAP and inventory management software, emailing and utilizing other IS programs as needed.
• Working a schedule based on store needs which includes evenings, weekends, holidays. Position requires working five days, 40 hours per week and attending mandatory store meetings.
• This position has limited manager on duty but is never intended to be the overall manager on duty for the store.

Qualifications of Freight Receiving Assistant:

• It is preferred to hold a High School diploma, GED, or a comparable qualification.
• Preference is given to candidates with one year of background in a grocery/retail setting or receiving role, with an added advantage for those with experience in natural foods.
• year of prior supervisory experience is desirable.
• Achieving forklift certification is the capability to acquire the necessary credentials for operating a forklift.
• Being able to successfully complete food safety training programs and certifications as mandated by regulations and ensuring that certifications are current and valid as needed.
• Being able to effectively handle shifting priorities and maintain concentration on the current task is essential.
• Approach tasks with a mindset of promptly attending to them.
• Demonstrate exceptional abilities in handling customer inquiries and concerns.
• Extremely methodical and meticulous in their approach.
• Capacity to receive guidance and complete tasks.
• Proficiency in cashier duties and the ability to accurately handle cash transactions are essential requirements.
• Skilled in operating MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Physical Requirements of Freight Receiving Assistant:

• Must possess the capacity to regularly hoist or transport objects weighing up to 10 pounds, frequently handle loads ranging from 11 to 20 pounds, and intermittently manage items weighing between 21 and 50 pounds. Additionally, candidates should be capable of occasionally taking on loads of 51 to 100 pounds with the assistance of a team member.
• The individual should be capable of regularly exerting force to move objects weighing up to 15 lbs., and occasionally moving items weighing between 16 and 100 lbs.
• Having the capability to sometimes utilize the computer for inputting data and operating the mouse is required.
• It is necessary to be able to walk, stand, use precise hand movements, hold onto objects, flex, pivot, rotate, and extend outward consistently throughout the work period.
• The ability to regularly extend beyond shoulder height is required.
• The ability to sit, squat, kneel, and climb when required is necessary.
• Regular exposure to sharp tools and machinery, airborne particles, vapors, and crowded workspaces is a requirement for this role.
• Capable of working in various conditions like noise, cold, heat, wetness, humidity, outdoor settings, elevated areas, and physical pressure on occasion is necessary.
