Job Summary of Receiving Associate:
The Receiving Associate works alongside the Receiving Manager to support the effective operation of the receiving department. Key duties include unloading incoming freight, reviewing and organizing products, and confirming that all items are counted, labeled, and stored correctly based on company requirements.
Responsibilities of Receiving Associate:
- Providing world-class customer service as a number one priority.

- Assisting the receiving department manager in accurately receiving all incoming products including date, accuracy and damage checking.
- Scanning all incoming and outgoing product.
- Staging products for efficient delivery to the sales floor.
- Processing POs, RPOs, mispicks, invoices and paperwork timely and accurately.
- Researching and processing all discrepancies.
- Communicating with department managers regarding delivery issues and vendor out-of-stocks.
- Following up on special orders.
- Operating a forklift and pallet jack as required.
- Maintaining a clean and organized back room.
- Working with the department managers to address performance issues within the department.
- Supporting store opening and closing activities including Daily Sales Report (DSR) and cash handling and cashier closeout responsibilities.
- Handling register functions including backup cashiering, managing customer returns, addressing customer complaints, and covering register shift changes, including those for scheduled breaks.
- Maintaining the safety and security of customers and employees.
- Assisting in training and monitoring of department personnel including assigning and following up on tasks.
- Taking the initiative to provide additional help and backup in the store and providing store backup on the sales floor when receiving duties are complete.
- Answering customer questions per company standards and policies, including the use of Structure/Function statements and/or statements of nutritional support.
- Continually increasing product knowledge.
- Using SAP and inventory management software, emailing and utilizing other IS programs as needed.
- Working a schedule based on store needs which includes evenings, weekends, holidays. Position requires working five days, 40 hours per week and attending mandatory store meetings.
- This position has limited manager on duty but is never intended to be the overall manager on duty for the store.
Qualifications of Receiving Associate:
- A High School diploma, GED, or equivalent is the preferred educational requirement.
- Preference is given to individuals with one year of experience in a grocery or retail environment, particularly in receiving, and having a background in natural foods is a beneficial addition.
- Prior experience leading a team for a year is preferred.
- Getting forklift certification is the opportunity to demonstrate the skills and knowledge needed to operate a forklift proficiently.
- Successfully completing the mandated food safety training programs and certifications, and keeping certifications current and duly registered to ensure ongoing compliance.
- Successfully managing changing priorities while staying dedicated to the task at hand is a valuable ability.
- Work diligently to complete tasks promptly and convey a sense of urgency.
- Exhibit exceptional proficiency in customer service delivery.
- Displaying a great deal of organization along with a meticulous attention to detail.
- Skill in following through on instructions and accomplishing goals.
- Must be trained in cashier operations and demonstrate proficiency in counting currency accurately.

Physical Requirements of Receiving Associate:
- Must have the ability to constantly lift or carry up to 10 lbs., frequently lift or carry 11-20 lbs., and occasionally lift or carry 21-50 lbs. Must also have the ability to occasionally lift or carry 51-100 lbs. with a team lift.
- Demonstrating the ability to frequently push or pull objects weighing up to 15 lbs. and occasionally moving items weighing between 16 and 100 lbs. is a must for this role.
- Essential to be able to occasionally input data and operate the mouse on the computer.
- Demonstrating the capability to constantly walk, stand, utilize fine motor skills, grip, bend, twist, turn, and reach outward is a key component of successfully completing the work shift.
- The role necessitates frequent reaching beyond the chest level.
- Capable of sitting, crouching, kneeling, and ascending intermittently as needed.
