Grocery Operations Clerk

Role and Responsibilities:

As a Grocery Operations Clerk at Giant Food, you will help ensure that shelves are fully stocked, organized, and visually appealing to create an exceptional shopping experience. You will work across departments, including produce, dairy, frozen, and general grocery, supporting efficient store operations and helping customers find what they need.

• Stock shelves, displays, and endcaps to keep products readily available.
• Follow FIFO (First In, First Out) procedures to maintain product freshness and quality.
• Ensure accurate pricing and proper labeling of items.
• Create and maintain promotional displays and signage as instructed by management.
• Assist customers in locating products and provide helpful guidance.
• Deliver friendly and knowledgeable service to enhance customer satisfaction.
• Address minor customer issues or escalate concerns to supervisors when necessary.
• Maintain clean and organized work areas, including shelves, floors, and spill zones.
• Keep backroom and storage areas orderly and accessible.
• Notify management promptly about low-stock or out-of-stock items.
• Participate in routine inventory counts and audits.
• Check expiration dates and remove expired or damaged items.
• Collaborate effectively with team members, supervisors, and other departments.
• Support other departments as assigned by store leadership.
• Contribute to overall store operations and foster a cooperative team environment.

Required Skills and Experience:

• Minimum age of 16 years (18 for certain departments).
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred, but not required.
• Prior retail or grocery experience is a plus but not mandatory.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, and carry up to 50 lbs.
• Comfortable working in refrigerated areas such as dairy or frozen sections.
• Availability to work flexible shifts including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Strong communication and customer service skills.
• Basic math and reading comprehension abilities.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in grocery, retail, or other customer-facing roles.
• Knowledge of inventory management or merchandising processes.
• Ability to collaborate effectively in a team-focused environment.
