Role and Responsibilities:
As a Meat Cutter at Whole Foods Market, you will be responsible for preparing, cutting, and displaying high-quality meat products while providing excellent customer service and ensuring compliance with food safety standards. You will also support team development and contribute to store programs.
- Prepare and display a variety of meat items such as beef, pork, lamb, veal, and poultry for sale.
- Create unique processed meat products like sausages, ready-to-cook items, and preserved meats.
- Verify that items meet Whole Foods Market quality criteria.
- Manage sampling initiatives and help prevent product spoilage.
- Guide and assist designated Trainee(s) in the Meat Cutter role.
- Deliver excellent customer care by attending to customer needs promptly and using effective upselling techniques.
- Increase sales by implementing prepping, storing, rotating, stocking, and merchandising protocols.
- Adhere to health, sanitation, Weights and Measures, and safety regulations.
- Maintain cleanliness and hygiene in the workplace and retail space, and follow equipment maintenance guidelines.
- Complete opening, mid-shift, and closing tasks including verifying signage and pricing accuracy.
- Report any safety risks or violations immediately.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by store, regional, or national management.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Over one year of retail experience.
- Completion of the Whole Foods Market Butcher Apprentice Program or similar training (exceptions may apply).
- Strong understanding of meat department operations and protocols.
- Advanced cutting skills, including breaking down meat into primal and retail cuts.
- Knowledge of various meat and seafood cuts and cooking methods.
- Ability to visually assess product quality and freshness.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Effective time management and organizational abilities.
- Passion for organic foods and alignment with Whole Foods Market values.
- Ability to perform efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Understanding and adherence to Whole Foods Market's quality standards.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience coaching or training fellow team members.
- Ability to communicate market trends and product information to customers.
Compensation and Benefits:
The hourly pay for this role ranges from $18.50 to $30.20 based on experience, calculated on a standard 40-hour work week. Whole Foods Market offers an extensive benefits package called Whole Benefits, which may include:
