Role and Responsibilities:
As a Self Checkout Attendant, you will play a key role in safeguarding company assets while ensuring a smooth and positive shopping experience. You will oversee self-checkout activity, support customers when needed, and help maintain an efficient, friendly atmosphere. Core responsibilities include:
- Monitor self-checkout lanes to identify unusual or suspicious transactions.
- Ensure customers scan and bag items accurately, stepping in to verify purchases when required.
- Respond promptly to Point-of-Sale (POS) alerts and transaction discrepancies.
- Immediately report theft, equipment malfunctions, or suspicious activity to store leadership.
- Deliver courteous, timely assistance to customers using self-checkout.
- Educate customers on checkout procedures to minimize errors and improve efficiency.
- Maintain a professional, approachable demeanor to promote a positive shopping environment.
- Encourage customers to utilize self-checkout lanes when appropriate.
- Ensure the self-checkout area remains stocked with supplies such as bags, receipt paper, and cleaning materials.
- Clean and sanitize checkout machines and surrounding areas as needed.
- Assist with collecting and returning shopping carts when required.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify inconsistencies.
- Excellent customer service skills with a friendly and professional approach.
- Basic computer literacy for online training and POS system use.
- Clear communication skills in English; bilingual ability is a plus.
- Ability to follow company policies and directions accurately.
- High level of reliability and integrity.
- Capable of handling stressful situations calmly and effectively.
- Physical ability to stand, walk, lift, push, or carry up to 20 lbs, with occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching, balancing, or climbing up to 4 feet.
Preferred Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED preferred but not required.
- Previous retail or customer service experience is an advantage.
