Role and Responsibilities:
The Bakery Associate supports the daily operations of the bakery department by producing, packaging, and presenting fresh baked goods to customers. This role ensures excellent service, food safety, and compliance while contributing to customer satisfaction and departmental success. Key responsibilities include:
Service (60%)
Create a welcoming environment that increases customer confidence and loyalty.
Maintain daily product freshness, quality, and availability.
Offer samples, answer product-related questions, and provide suggestions.
Fulfill customer special orders and requests promptly and accurately.
Leadership (20%)
Promote trust and respect through teamwork and open communication.
Ensure compliance with all company policies and state/federal regulations.
Financial (10%)
Monitor and report inventory discrepancies.
Inspect and rotate products to ensure freshness.
Prepare, label, package, and display baked goods.
Use production planning tools to minimize waste and shrink.
Maintain accurate temperature logs and food safety documentation.
Compliance & Safety (10%)
Follow food safety standards and sanitation practices.
Comply with USDA, DOA, and COOL labeling regulations.
Execute recalls and withdrawals promptly and properly.
Report safety risks, injuries, and incidents immediately.
Ensure PPE use and safe operation of bakery equipment.
Identify, report, and assist with remediation of unsafe equipment.
Required Skills and Experience:
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Authorization to work in the U.S.
Ability to read, write, and understand English.
Successful completion of drug screening and background check.
Strong customer service and communication skills.
Ability to operate bakery equipment including slicers, ovens, scales, knives, and pricing tools.
Preferred Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED.
Spanish language proficiency.
0–3 years of experience in retail, bakery, or food service.
Integrity, reliability, and a team-oriented attitude.
Physical & Environmental Requirements:
Physical Demands: Regular standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 35 lbs; occasional climbing up to 10 ft; pulling up to 250 lbs with carts or pallet jacks; repetitive hand and foot movement; ability to see, hear, and smell.
Work Conditions: Exposure to hot, cold, and humid environments; frequent exposure to slippery surfaces, loud noise, sharp tools, and hazardous equipment; occasional exposure to fumes, cleaning chemicals, dust, and allergens.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Goggles, gloves, cutting gloves, oven mitts, fryer gloves, back brace.
Work Schedule:
Varied shifts including weekends, evenings, and holidays.
Occasional travel; no overnight requirements.
