Job Summary of Produce Handling Assistant:

The Produce Handling Assistant is crucial in supporting the Produce Manager to maintain the efficiency and profitability of the produce department.

Responsibilities of Produce Handling Assistant:

• Contributing to maintaining accurate inventory levels and assisting in ordering processes for the produce department.
• Assisting the department manager in managing margins, COGs, and overall department profitability by minimizing shrinkage and maximizing effective purchasing practices.
• The ongoing management of the department includes the task of maintaining a fresh, full, and abundant produce rack throughout each day to meet customer needs effectively.
• Selecting, maintaining freshness, twirling, and appropriately caring for fruits and vegetables.
• Checking the ordering and receiving process to ensure it aligns with organic certification requirements.
• Checking to ensure that the conditions of all available products meet the company's requirements.
• Abiding by regulations from the health department and the company to clean tools and equipment to required cleanliness levels.
• Accepting incoming produce orders following the established procedures and guidelines of the company.
• Dealing with distinct orders and their supervision.
• Supporting in the training and supervision of department employees.
• Conducting demonstrative and observational demos.
• Partnering with the department head to address performance-related issues and enhance productivity within the team.
• Responsibilities include overseeing register operations like backup cashier duties, processing customer refunds, addressing client complaints, and ensuring register shift coverage, including scheduled breaks.
• Upholding the security and safety of both customers and employees.
• Managing customer questions based on company policies, which may include delivering structured messages regarding the functions and nutritional value of the products.
• Unceasingly enhancing product awareness.
• Making use of email and IS applications as required.
• You may find yourself responsible for finishing DSR and handling the closing cash processes in the absence of any other qualified personnel.
• Working a schedule based on store needs which includes evenings, weekends, holidays. Position requires working five days, 40 hours per week and attending mandatory store meetings.
• This position entails restricted manager on duty functions and is not intended to be the primary manager on duty for the store.

Qualification of Produce Handling Assistant:

• Having a high school diploma, GED, or an equivalent qualification is advantageous for applicants.
• Candidates with a background in grocery, retail, or produce, particularly in natural foods, are preferred if they have one year of experience.
• Preferential consideration will be given to those with one year of supervisory experience.
• It is essential to meet the requirements of food safety training courses and certifications as mandated by law, and staying compliant by keeping certifications up to date and registered if applicable is vital.
• Proficiency in managing varied priorities and staying engaged with the current objective.

Physical Requirements of Produce Handling Assistant:

• Essential job functions include the capability to consistently lift or transport loads of up to 10 lbs., frequently handle loads weighing 11-20 lbs., and occasionally manage loads ranging from 21 to 50 lbs. The role also includes the ability to occasionally lift or carry loads of 51-100 lbs. with collaborative support.
• Must possess the capacity to regularly push or pull objects up to 15 lbs and occasionally manage items in the 16-100 lbs weight category.
• Requiring the use of the computer for data entry and mouse manipulation periodically is part of the job requirements.
• Having the ability to consistently walk, stand, use precise hand movements, hold onto objects, and reach outward is a key requirement for the position.
