Wine Steward

Kroger is seeking a Wine Steward to deliver an exceptional customer experience through outstanding service and deep knowledge of wines and related products. In this role, you will assist the department manager with sales, merchandising, and customer engagement, while upholding company standards of safety, cleanliness, and quality assurance. Role and Responsibilities:

As a Wine Steward, you will combine product expertise with customer service to drive department success. Your responsibilities include:

• Promote trust and respect among associates and encourage teamwork.
• Create a welcoming environment by answering customer questions and offering product suggestions.
• Maintain strong knowledge of wines, including imported and domestic varieties, flavor profiles, and production methods.
• Offer wine samples in accordance with company policies and applicable laws.
• Inform customers of wine specials and recommend pairings with meats, cheeses, desserts, and other products.
• Collaborate with store chefs on wine tastings and promotional programs.
• Ensure cases and coolers maintain proper temperatures and complete logs as required.
• Reinforce safety programs, identify unsafe conditions, and notify management.
• Inspect and maintain equipment, reporting any needed repairs to management.
• Report customer or employee accidents, safety risks, or illegal activity such as theft or fraud.

Required Skills and Experience:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• Knowledge of domestic and imported wines, flavor profiles, and industry trends.
• Ability to pass a wine knowledge test once employed.
• Effective communication and customer service skills.
• Knowledge of basic math skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and handle stressful situations.
• Retail experience, preferably in wine, beer, or specialty products.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience working directly with wine and beer.
• Bilingual or multilingual communication skills.
• Previous experience in customer-facing retail environments.
