Job Summary of Produce Merchandiser:
In the role of a Produce Merchandiser, your fundamental duties include providing exceptional customer service by undertaking responsibilities such as pricing, stocking, and rearranging merchandise in the Produce Department. Your primary task involves upholding a clean, well-organized, and visually enticing department ambiance to ensure the produce is fresh, correctly managed, and attractively showcased. You will also assist in handling deliveries, following food safety guidelines, and supporting department operations while promoting company initiatives and delivering welcoming customer service.
Responsibilities of Produce Merchandiser:
- Greet all Customers and provide them with prompt, courteous service and assistance.
- Promote for sale any current charitable promotions to Customers.
- Maintain a clean, neat, organized, and safe work environment.
- Follow approved procedures for receiving, code dating, storing, and restocking produce to ensure quality and freshness.
- Be knowledgeable in and able to differentiate between various types of produce, including taste, seasonality, use, and pricing differences.
- Keep display cases and other merchandising areas stocked, signed, and attractively arranged.
- Control freshness, quality, and temperature of products by following safe food handling practices.
- Handle spoiled or damaged products according to Company policy.
- Regularly lift, pull, push, and rotate merchandise that weighs 25 lbs., and occasionally up to 60 lbs.
- Unload deliveries and transport merchandise to the Produce Department using appropriate equipment.
- Check refrigeration and storage areas for proper performance and report issues immediately.
- Utilize and maintain department equipment properly; report equipment problems promptly.
- Maintain sanitation standards by sweeping, mopping, and removing refuse as needed.
- Operate baler and compactor in accordance with safety guidelines.
- Dress and groom according to Company policy, including uniform, name badge, and hair restraint requirements.
- Use disposable gloves and follow QA hand washing standards when handling food.
- Perform all duties in accordance with Company rules, policies, safety requirements, and local, state, and federal regulations.
- Adhere to HAZCOM procedures and manufacturer guidelines for safe use of chemical products.
- Understand and follow all Country of Origin Label (C.O.O.L.) regulations for produce items.
- Understand and adhere to Company shrink guidelines for the Produce Department.
- Complete all applicable department training programs.
- Perform all duties in accordance with ShopRite Service Priorities (Safety, Friendliness, Presentation, and Efficiency).
- Stand at assigned workstation for the duration of scheduled shift, which may exceed 8 hours.
- Maintain punctual and regular attendance.
- Work overtime as assigned.
- Work cooperatively with others.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications of Produce Merchandiser:
- The use of compactors, powered industrial trucks, and cutting machinery is restricted to individuals who have reached the age of 18.
- Proficiency in the comprehension, analysis, interpretation, reading, writing, and verbal expression in English.
- Competence in performing basic math functions.
- Competence in standing and walking for the duration of the scheduled shift.
- The ability to remain standing, bending, twisting, extending, pushing, pulling, and routinely lifting 25 lbs., with occasional lifting up to 60 lbs.
- Capacity to handle varying temperatures, including refrigerated and high-moisture conditions.
- Capability to handle fresh, dehydrated, or processed merchandise, spices, and powdered substances without experiencing any adverse outcomes.
- Skill to tolerate dust and household cleaning solutions when completing daily cleaning tasks.
- Proficient in friendly and helpful communication with customers.
- Ability to operate in a team-oriented manner.
- Proficiency in meeting all scheduled work hours and abiding by all policies regarding timekeeping and attendance.
