Position Summary
We are seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join the Member Desk organization within Sam’s Technology. This role requires deep expertise in modern frontend technologies along with strong full-stack proficiency to design, build, and scale high-performance applications.
You will lead technical direction, architect complex solutions, mentor engineers, and champion best practices for building intuitive, accessible, and responsive user interfaces. You will also support backend development as needed. Collaboration with product, design, and cross-functional engineering teams is essential to deliver solutions that balance user experience, technical quality, and business impact.
About the Team
The Sam’s Tech Member Desk Engineering Team builds and manages applications and services used at the Member Services Desk across all U.S. Sam’s Club locations. These systems support:
Membership signups, renewals, and upgrades
Returns processing
Item purchases at the member services desk
The team focuses on reliability, speed, usability, and innovation to deliver seamless member-facing experiences.
What You’ll Do
Lead the architecture, design, and implementation of complex frontend features and frameworks.
Collaborate with backend, product, and platform teams to ensure cohesive system integration.
Define and enforce coding standards, engineering best practices, and scalable technical strategies.
Champion AI-assisted development tools (code generation, testing automation, intelligent monitoring) to increase engineering velocity.
Identify opportunities to embed AI-driven features into products and guide scalable implementation.
Provide mentorship, technical leadership, and coaching to engineers to foster innovation and AI fluency.
Stay updated on emerging frontend, full-stack, and AI technologies to evolve the engineering stack.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Software Engineering, or related field and 2 years of software engineering experience
Expertise in accessibility best practices, including:
WCAG 2.2 AA standards
Assistive technologies
Inclusive digital experience design
Demonstrated ability to integrate accessibility into product development following Walmart standards
Technical Skills Required
Expertise in modern frontend frameworks (React, React Native)
Strong proficiency in JavaScript, TypeScript, CSS, and responsive UI design
Solid backend knowledge (Node.js, APIs, databases, cloud platforms)
Familiarity with AI/ML tools, frameworks, and automation systems
Experience designing scalable architectures and solving complex engineering challenges
Excellent communication, leadership, and influence skills
Compensation
Annual Salary Range: $110,000 – $220,000
Additional Compensation: Annual or quarterly performance bonuses
