Deli Clerk

Job Summary:

The Deli Clerk provides friendly, efficient service by slicing, packaging, weighing, and selling deli products, including meats and cheeses. This role ensures the deli area is clean, well-stocked, and visually appealing while assisting members with product selection and special orders.

Major Tasks, Responsibilities, and Key Accountabilities:

• Provide excellent member service answer questions, make recommendations, and take special orders.
• Slice, weigh, and package deli products including meats, cheeses, and prepared items.
• Sample products for members and assist them with selections.
• Receive and inspect deli shipments for quality and freshness.
• Stock, rotate, and merchandise deli products following food safety and freshness standards.
• Check for out-of-date items daily and follow proper disposal or salvage procedures.
• Clean and sanitize deli equipment and work surfaces regularly.
• Operate slicers, scales, and rotisserie ovens safely and correctly.
• Ensure scale systems are accurate for proper pricing and labeling.
• Follow all BJ’s policies and procedures, maintaining compliance at all times.
• Perform other duties as assigned, including assisting in other departments when needed.
• Regular, predictable attendance is an essential part of this role.

Qualifications:

• Previous experience in a deli or food service environment preferred.
• Experience operating slicers, scales, and related deli equipment preferred.
• Knowledge of deli products and food safety guidelines.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.

Environmental Job Conditions:

• Frequent standing and movement on hard surfaces.
• Occasional bending, reaching, and lifting up to 30 lbs (heavier items with assistance).
• Work in varying temperatures due to exposure to coolers, ovens, and freezers.
• Occasional exposure to cleaning agents.
