Grocery Department Associate

Role and Responsibilities:

As a Grocery Department Associate at Giant Food, you will ensure shelves remain stocked, organized, and visually appealing to provide an excellent shopping experience. You will work across departments including produce, dairy, frozen, and general grocery, contributing to efficient and customer-focused store operations.

• Stock shelves, displays, and endcaps to maintain product availability.
• Follow FIFO (First In, First Out) procedures to guarantee product freshness and quality.
• Ensure items are correctly priced and properly labeled.
• Create and maintain promotional displays and signage according to management instructions.
• Assist customers in locating products and offer helpful guidance.
• Provide friendly, knowledgeable service to enhance customer experience.
• Address minor customer issues or escalate concerns to supervisors when necessary.
• Keep work areas clean and organized, including shelves, floors, and spill zones.
• Maintain backroom and storage areas in an orderly manner.
• Alert management about low-stock or out-of-stock items promptly.
• Participate in routine inventory counts and audits.
• Check product expiration dates and remove expired or damaged items.
• Collaborate effectively with team members, supervisors, and other departments.
• Provide support to other departments as assigned by store leadership.
• Contribute to overall store operations and foster a cooperative team environment.

Required Skills and Experience:

• Minimum age of 16 years (18 for specific departments).
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred but not required.
• Prior retail or grocery experience is a plus but not mandatory.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, and carry up to 50 lbs.
• Comfortable working in refrigerated sections such as dairy or frozen areas.
• Availability to work flexible shifts including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Strong communication and customer service skills.
• Basic math and reading comprehension abilities.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in grocery, retail, or other customer-facing roles.
• Knowledge of inventory management or merchandising processes.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team-focused environment.
