Job Summary of Grocery Department Clerk:

As a Grocery Department Clerk, your core responsibility is to enhance customer service quality by engaging in pricing, stocking, facing, and rotating merchandise in the Grocery Department. You will be instrumental in preserving a tidy, safe, and structured environment, overseeing inventory levels, and following corporate guidelines and safety protocols to promote the smooth operation of the department.

Responsibilities of Grocery Department Clerk:

• Foster a safe and organized workspace by maintaining cleanliness and orderliness.
• Ensure work surfaces and equipment are cleaned and sanitized to meet sanitation and quality assurance criteria.
• Make sure that there are no spills, clutter, or hindrances present on the floor.
• Offer a warm salutation to each customer and deliver them swift, polite assistance and aid.
• Take note of all safety procedures when working with machinery.
• Make sure shelves and displays are constantly filled, well-organized, and aesthetically pleasing.
• Verify that discounted goods are adequately signed to encourage sales.
• Ensure conformity to accepted procedures for the receipt, dating with codes, storage, and pricing of products.
• Implement Company procedures for handling defective or returnable products.
• Monitor price changes and be well-versed in the whereabouts of products throughout the store.
• Utilize CGO platforms and handheld terminals to monitor inventory levels and reorder merchandise as necessary.
• Ensure that markdowns, spoilage, and in-house use are recorded correctly as per the Company's directives.
• Follow the designated rotation procedures diligently and stay vigilant about monitoring sell-by dates, particularly for perishable items.
• Maintain vigilance over the grocery storage area to guarantee it is structured, spotless, and primed for the next rotation.
• Transport products from trucks and securely store them in designated storage spaces using carts, U-boats, and jacks.
• Adhere to the Company's standards when assembling and finishing block and facial features.
• Stay on top of price tags and adjust prices when needed.
• Operate equipment like balers, compactors, and hand jacks with safety precautions in mind.
• Ensure that equipment problems are promptly communicated to the Department Manager or Store Management.
• Abide by the Company's guidelines for controlling shrinkage and monitoring inventory levels.
• Help the Department Manager with daily activities and ensuring effective collaboration among team members.
• Follow all regulatory requirements from the local, state, and federal government that are associated with running a grocery store.
• Comply with the Company's policies concerning dress code and grooming, which entail wearing the specified uniform and displaying the name badge.
• Comply with QA standards for hand washing practices and wear gloves when touching food items.
• Successfully undertake all departmental training courses.
• Ensure that all functions are performed with a focus on ShopRite's main service areas: Safety, Friendliness, Presentation, and Efficiency.
• Occupy the department for the duration of the set shift, which may surpass 8 hours.
• Maintain regular and timely attendance.
• Be willing to put in extra time on the job as needed.
• Foster a spirit of cooperation with your peers.
• Complete any other assignments given.

Qualifications of Grocery Department Clerk:

• Must be 18 years or older to operate balers, hi-lo's, power jacks, and slicing machines.
• Ability to read, write, speak, analyze, interpret, and understand English proficiently.
• Ability to perform basic math calculations.
• Ability to stand and walk for the entire duration of a scheduled shift.
• Ability to bend, twist, reach, push, pull, and regularly lift 25 lbs., and occasionally lift up to 60 lbs.
• Ability to work with fresh, dried, or processed food products and spices without allergic reactions.
• Ability to tolerate cleaning agents and dust as part of routine duties.
• Ability to climb ladders to access overhead racking or storage areas.
• Ability to interact with customers in a friendly and helpful way.
• Ability to work cooperatively with team members and follow all scheduling and attendance policies.
