Job Summary of Pharmacy Assistant:
The main goal is to ensure a positive customer service experience in the Pharmacy Department by handling cash transactions, providing assistance, restocking supplies, and maintaining cleanliness to support smooth departmental operations.
Qualifications of Pharmacy Assistant:
- Must be 18 years of age or older. Must maintain proper state licensing or certifications.
- Ability to proficiently read, write, speak, analyze, interpret, and understand the English language.
- Ability to perform basic math.
- Ability to stand/walk for the duration of a scheduled shift.
- Ability to stand, bend, twist, reach, push, pull and regularly lift 25 lbs., and occasionally lift 50 lbs.
- Ability to work in varying temperatures.
- Ability to tolerate dust and chemical agents during routine housekeeping duties.
- Ability to interact with Customers in a friendly and helpful way. Ability to work cooperatively with others.
- Ability to work all assigned work schedules and comply with all time and attendance policies.
- Ability to proficiently use all required computer hardware and software. Ability to work overtime as assigned. Must preserve confidentiality of information.

Responsibilities of Pharmacy Assistant:
- Fulfillment of the core duties of this role necessitates that the Associate meets the basic requirements as stated earlier.
- Welcome all clients with politeness and offer them timely, respectful support and help.
- Precisely record the transaction of prescription sales.
- Efficiently gather correct payments and issue accurate change promptly. Adhere to State and Federal regulations concerning drug laws set by the State Board of Pharmacy, HIPAA, the Drug Enforcement Agency, and the Food and Drug Administration.
- Ensure the Pharmacy Department's security protocols are upheld.
- Display the highest level of professionalism and confidentiality in handling patients and their medical records.
- Greet callers warmly and professionally when answering phone calls. Obtain medication orders from clients or customers and confirm personal details such as name, contact information, date of birth, sensitivities, and insurance coverage.
- Assist the Pharmacist by arranging and replenishing pharmaceuticals according to instructions. Aid customers in finding non-prescription items on the shelves. Have a good understanding of the merchandise available in the section.
- Ensure you finish the HIPAA Privacy and Security training courses. Understand the operations of the digital processing machinery and distinguish between different kinds of images and relevant products as needed.
- Uphold a tidy, orderly, structured, and secure workspace. Adhere to guidelines from the Sanitation and Quality Assurance department by cleaning and disinfecting all workstations, tools, and machinery.
- Maintain an unobstructed floor by ensuring it is free from any clutter or liquids.
- Follow the guidelines outlined in the Company's HAZCOM program and comply with the recommended usage instructions specified on the labels of chemical products.
- Follow department guidelines to operate and upkeep equipment; notify promptly of any equipment malfunctions.
- Frequently handle, move, push, and turn goods weighing 25 lbs., occasionally reaching up to 50 lbs.
- Maintain a standing position at your work area for the entirety of your designated work hours, which could extend beyond 8 hours each day.
- Ensure familiarity with store prices and product locations. Encourage Customers to participate in ongoing charitable initiatives. Comprehend and follow Company policies on minimizing losses in department operations.
- Adhere to Pharmacy operation regulations at the Local, State, and Federal levels, as well as comply with Company policies, safety measures, and security protocols, along with health and civil code regulations at all levels. Engage in all relevant departmental training initiatives.
- Adhere to the ShopRite Service Priorities including safety, friendliness, presentation, and efficiency while carrying out responsibilities.
- Collaborate effectively with colleagues. Take on additional tasks as required.
