Assistant Produce Manager

Job Summary

As the Assistant Produce Manager at Fiesta Mart Store #024 (Houston Fondren), you'll play a vital role in supporting the Produce Manager to oversee daily operations in one of the store's busiest and most dynamic departments. Your mission: ensure fresh, high-quality produce is consistently available while fostering a clean, organized, and customer-focused environment. This leadership position requires a passion for produce, strong organizational skills, and a hands-on approach to team management and department success.

Responsibilities

• Assist in planning, directing, and coordinating all activities of the Produce Department.
• Ensure proper merchandising, product rotation, inventory management, and shrink reduction.
• Lead by example, promoting excellent customer service and department cleanliness.
• Supervise, train, and schedule department staff, ensuring high performance and teamwork.
• Enforce compliance with food safety, sanitation, and company policies.
• Help monitor and maintain accurate ordering and receiving processes.
• Step in as acting manager in the absence of the Produce Manager.
• Contribute ideas for seasonal promotions, displays, and local produce sourcing.

Qualifications and Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent required; some college or technical training is a plus.
• 1 3 years of experience in a produce department or grocery retail setting, with leadership experience preferred.
• Working knowledge of produce quality, storage, handling, and food safety guidelines.
• Proven ability to manage people and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills are highly desirable.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs, stand for extended periods, and perform physical tasks such as bending, kneeling, and walking.
• Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

Salary

Starting at $18.00 $22.00 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications. Additional performance-based incentives may apply.
