Job Summary of Stockroom Receiving Assistant:
Supporting the Receiving Manager, the Stockroom Receiving Assistant plays a crucial part in the smooth operation of the receiving department. This position involves tasks such as receiving, checking, and categorizing incoming packages. The Stockroom Receiving Assistant is accountable for ensuring the accurate quantification, suitable tagging, and organized placement of goods following company protocols.
Responsibilities of Stockroom Receiving Assistant:
- Making world-class customer care a top priority.

- Supporting the receiving department manager in the meticulous process of accepting all incoming goods, which includes tasks such as checking dates, confirming accuracy, and assessing for any signs of damage.
- Reviewing all products coming in and going out.
- Organizing products in a way that streamlines their transportation to the sales area.
- Efficient and precise processing of POs, RPOs, mispicks, invoices, and paperwork within set timelines.
- Analyzing and rectifying all divergences uncovered.
- Addressing delivery complications and vendor inventory deficiencies with department heads.
- Monitoring the progress of custom orders.
- Utilizing a forklift and pallet jack as needed.
- The importance of a neat and organized back room cannot be overstated.
- Assisting department managers in handling performance challenges within their respective departments.
- Providing aid in the commencement and conclusion of store activities, encompassing responsibilities like preparing the Daily Sales Report (DSR) and overseeing cash management and the completion of cashier tasks.
- Managing register tasks that involve acting as an additional cashier when required, handling customer returns and exchanges, addressing and resolving customer concerns, and filling in for register staff during scheduled breaks or shift changes.
- Safeguarding the security and safety of both clients and employees.
- Helping with the instruction and oversight of department employees, such as task delegation and progress tracking.
- Being proactive in offering additional aid and reinforcement in the store, and supporting on the sales floor after completing receiving responsibilities.
- Responding to customer queries in alignment with the company's standards and policies, which may necessitate incorporating statements that outline the structural or functional properties of the product, as well as its nutritional support.
- Continual enhancement of product expertise.
- Leveraging SAP and inventory management software, as well as resorting to email communication and other necessary IS applications.
- The job entails following a schedule tailored to the demands of the store, involving shifts during evenings, weekends, and holidays. Successful candidates will be expected to work a standard 40-hour week across five days and participate in mandatory meetings held by the store.
- The role is not designated to act as the store's main manager on duty and has limited responsibilities in that aspect.
Qualifications of Stockroom Receiving Assistant:
- High School diploma, GED or equivalent preferred.
- 1 year of experience in grocery/retail or receiving environment preferred; natural foods background is a plus.
- 1 year of experience supervising others preferred.
- Ability to obtain forklift certification.
- Ability to pass food safety training courses and/or certifications as required by law and maintain compliance by keeping certifications up to date and registered if applicable.
- Ability to manage changing priorities and to stay focused with the task at hand.
- Possess a sense of urgency in the completion of tasks.
- Possess excellent customer service skills.
- Highly organized with great attention to detail.
- Ability to take direction and follow through.
- Must be cashier trained and able to count currency.
- Proficient in MS Word, Excel and Outlook.
