As a Produce Sales Associate, your main objective is to enhance the customer journey by performing tasks like pricing, restocking, and organizing items in the Produce Department. Your pivotal duties involve maintaining a hygienic, structured, and visually pleasing department setting to guarantee the freshness, proper care, and attractive presentation of the produce selection. Additionally, you will aid in handling deliveries, complying with food safety standards, and contributing to the efficient functioning of departmental activities, all while championing corporate campaigns and offering friendly customer support.
Responsibilities of Produce Sales Associate:
- Show courtesy to all clients as they arrive and ensure they receive timely, respectful service and guidance.
- Present exclusive sales opportunities that benefit charitable organizations.
- Uphold a workspace that is neat, systematic, and conducive to a secure setting.
- Follow endorsed steps for receiving, date-coding, warehousing, and replenishing produce in order to preserve their quality and freshness.
- Show proficiency in distinguishing between various types of produce, understanding their unique flavors, seasonal availability, recommended culinary uses, and variations in cost.
- Ensure that display cases and other product presentation spaces are consistently stocked, labeled, and arranged in an appealing manner.
- Regulate the freshness, quality, and temperature of products through the implementation of safe food handling methods.
- Comply with the Company's rules for addressing spoiled or damaged goods in a timely and efficient manner.
- Consistently lift, push, pull, and rotate items weighing 25 lbs, occasionally increasing to 60 lbs.
- Transport deliveries and merchandise to the Produce Department using the appropriate machinery.
- Make sure to assess refrigeration and storage areas to verify their proper operation and report any irregularities without delay.
- Maintain and operate departmental machinery correctly and report any equipment malfunctions promptly.
- Follow sanitation standards through actions such as sweeping, mopping, and discarding refuse as required.
- Operate the baler and compactor safely as per guidelines.
- Observe the Company's policies on attire and grooming, which involve donning the prescribed uniform, wearing the assigned name badge, and ensuring hair is properly secured.
- When handling food, it is important to wear disposable gloves and practice proper hand hygiene as per QA standards.
- Observe and uphold Company rules, policies, safety standards, and the regulations mandated by local, state, and federal bodies in the execution of duties.
- Adherence to both HAZCOM procedures and manufacturer guidelines is crucial to safely using chemical products.
- Follow all guidelines related to the Country of Origin Label (C.O.O.L.) regulations for produce items.
- Comply with the Company's standards for reducing shrink in the Produce Department.
- Engage in the full spectrum of departmental training initiatives.
- Conduct all duties in line with ShopRite's primary service principles (Safety, Friendliness, Appearance, and Efficiency).
- Occupy the designated workstation for the entirety of the scheduled shift, even if it extends beyond 8 hours.
- It is crucial to be present and on time consistently.
- Be ready to work beyond regular hours as requested.
- Operate in coordination with colleagues or peers.
- Undertake supplementary duties as needed.
Qualifications of Produce Sales Associate:
- Must be 18 years or older to operate balers, hi-lo's, power jacks, and slicing machines.
- Ability to proficiently read, write, speak, analyze, interpret, and understand the English language.
- Ability to perform basic math.
- Ability to stand/walk for the duration of a scheduled shift.
- Ability to stand, bend, twist, reach, push, pull, and regularly lift 25 lbs. and occasionally lift up to 60 lbs.
- Ability to work in varying temperatures, including refrigerated and high-moisture environments.
- Ability to work with fresh, dried and/or processed products, spices, and powdered substances without negative effects.
- Ability to tolerate dust and cleaning agents during routine housekeeping duties.
- Ability to interact with Customers in a friendly and helpful way.
- Ability to work cooperatively with others.
- Ability to work all assigned work schedules and comply with all time and attendance policies.
