Role and Responsibilities:

As a Cake Decorator, you will be responsible for creating, decorating, and showcasing bakery products with precision and creativity. You will play a key role in delivering outstanding service and ensuring every product meets Whole Foods Market's quality standards.

• Assemble, fill, finish, and decorate cakes, tarts, pastries, and special-order bakery items.
• Build, ice, and decorate cakes following standard procedures to meet business demand.
• Complete production and spoilage records and adjust production sheets to maintain product levels.
• Prioritize production lists and recommend adjustments as needed.
• Merchandise products in the sales display case to satisfy and delight customers.
• Monitor product quality, ensure freshness, and follow product rotation standards.
• Provide guidance and support to Bakery Decorator Apprentices and other Team Members.
• Create custom cake designs based on customer preferences.
• Deliver excellent customer service, including suggestive selling, phone interactions, and timely assistance.
• Maintain clean and sanitary working and shopping environments in compliance with safety standards.
• Perform opening, mid, and closing duties, including signage and pricing accuracy.
• Complete additional duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Experience:

• Efficient cake and pastry decorating skills, including piping techniques, decorative flowers, and borders.
• Knowledge of color theory and ability to blend buttercream colors effectively.
• Proficiency with icings such as Swiss Buttercream, American Buttercream, Ganache, Cream Cheese, Whipped Cream, Chantilly, German Chocolate, Fudge, and various Meringues.
• Ability to follow recipes, directions, and standard procedures.
• Advanced knife handling and tool/equipment safety.
• Basic math skills for recipe conversions and modifications.
• Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
• 6 12 months of retail or restaurant experience required.
• Completion of the Bakery Decorator Apprentice training program, or equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Prior experience in a professional bakery or grocery retail environment.

Compensation and Benefits:

The wage range for this position is $16.50 $30.20 per hour, commensurate with experience. Whole Foods Market offers “Whole Benefits,” which may include:
