Job Summary of Logistics Assistant:
The Logistics Assistant contributes to the successful operation of the receiving department by assisting the Receiving Manager. Tasks include unloading shipments, inspecting merchandise, and organizing products while ensuring each item is accurately counted, clearly labeled, and stored in the designated areas in line with company policies.
Responsibilities of Logistics Assistant:
- Putting an emphasis on providing world-class customer service as a priority.

- Aiding the receiving department manager in the accurate reception of all incoming products by conducting checks for dates, precision, and potential damage.
- Assessing all products entering and leaving the facility.
- Planning and executing the staging of products for quick and efficient delivery to the sales floor.
- Efficiently managing the processing of POs, RPOs, picking errors, invoices, and paperwork with precision and punctuality.
- Studying and resolving all variations detected.
- Engaging in conversations with department managers about delivery challenges and vendor stock unavailability.
- Monitoring the progress of custom orders.
- Operating a forklift and pallet jack as necessary.
- The importance of a neat and organized back room cannot be overstated.
- Engaging with departmental leaders to tackle performance issues in the unit.
- Assisting with store commencement and cessation activities, comprising duties such as creating the Daily Sales Report (DSR) and managing cash transactions, in addition to overseeing the cashier closeout obligations.
- Performing tasks related to register functions such as serving as backup for cashiers, processing returns and exchanges, resolving customer issues, and handling register shift changes, including covering breaks and managing staff rotation.
- Prioritizing the protection and security of customers and employees alike.
- Aiding in the development and oversight of department staff through task assignment and follow-up.
- Taking action to offer extra help and support in the store, and assisting on the sales floor after completing receiving tasks.
- Responding to customer inquiries while adhering to company standards, which may involve incorporating Structure/Function statements or statements highlighting the nutritional benefits of the product.
- Continuously enhancing product familiarity.
- Making use of SAP and inventory management software for streamlined inventory management, complemented by email communication and other relevant IS tools as required.
- The store requires employees to work a schedule that may include evenings, weekends, and holidays as necessary. This full-time position involves committing to five days of work per week, totaling 40 hours, and attending mandatory store meetings.
- This position holds managerial responsibilities but is not the top manager on duty for the store.
Qualifications of Logistics Assistant:
- High School diploma, GED or equivalent preferred.
- 1 year of experience in grocery/retail or receiving environment preferred; natural foods background is a plus.
- 1 year of experience supervising others preferred.
- Ability to obtain forklift certification.
- Ability to pass food safety training courses and/or certifications as required by law and maintain compliance by keeping certifications up to date and registered if applicable.
- Ability to manage changing priorities and to stay focused with the task at hand.
- Possess a sense of urgency in the completion of tasks.
- Possess excellent customer service skills.
- Highly organized with great attention to detail.
- Ability to take direction and follow through.
- Must be cashier trained and able to count currency.
- Proficient in MS Word, Excel and Outlook.

Physical Requirements of Logistics Assistant:

Additionally, candidates should be capable of occasionally taking on loads of 51 to 100 pounds with the assistance of a team member.
