Job Summary:
As a Customer Service Clerk, you are responsible for assisting customers with mail services, Western Union orders, utility bill payments, check cashing, money orders, and dry cleaning orders. You will also ensure a positive company image by providing courteous, friendly, and efficient service to customers and team members. At Hy-Vee, our people are our strength. Responsibilities:
- Provides prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service by exhibiting caring, concern, and patience in all interactions.
- Smiles and greets customers in a friendly manner, whether in the designated department or elsewhere in the store.
- Makes an effort to learn customers' names and address them by name whenever possible.
- Assists customers by escorting them to products, securing items out of reach, loading or unloading heavy items, noting suggestions, and enhancing the shopping experience.
- Answers the telephone promptly and provides friendly, helpful service to callers.
- Weighs postal packages, processes certified, express, UPS, registered, and insured mail.
- Processes Western Union orders, sells money orders, and cashes payroll, personal, ADC, and social security checks.
- Sells hunting and fishing licenses and processes utility payments.
- Processes paid outs, sends faxes, counts coupons, and processes refunds.
- Uses the store intercom system for paging as needed.
- Maintains cleanliness in work areas and removes trash in a timely manner.
- Signs on and off lottery machines, sells and redeems lottery tickets, and processes bottle refunds.
- Assists customers with dry cleaning orders where applicable.
- Assists at registers as needed.
- Maintains strict adherence to department and company guidelines related to personal hygiene and dress.
- Adheres to company policies and individual store guidelines.
- Reports to work when scheduled and on time.
- Assists in other areas of the store as needed and performs other job-related duties as required.
Qualifications:
- Ability to solve practical problems with a variety of variables and limited standardization.
- Ability to perform arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.
- Ability to file, post, and mail materials; copy data from one record to another; and provide basic guidance to customers.
- High school diploma or equivalent experience.
- Over six months up to one year of similar or related work experience.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and up to 20 pounds frequently.
- Visual requirements include clarity of vision from less than 20 inches to more than 20 feet, depth perception, color vision, and field of vision.
- Must be able to perform physical activities including stooping, reaching, lifting, pushing, pulling, standing, walking, talking, and hearing.
