Job Summary of Retail Service Manager:
The Retail Service Manager is integral to the store's profitability and smooth operation, overseeing the training and supervision of all department employees.
Responsibilities of Retail Service Manager:
- Guests are welcomed and looked after per the organization's standards for providing exceptional customer experiences.

- Ensures that phone calls are answered following company protocols and dedicates a substantial amount of time to supporting customers, supervising staff, and addressing departmental needs while actively present on the sales floor.
- Equipping employees with the tools and techniques to excel in customer service while ensuring they are accountable for their actions.
- Validating that the staff's food safety certifications and registration are in accordance with the state and county regulations.
- The Retail Service Manager is responsible for ensuring that the store is meeting and/or exceeding expectations in the following areas:
- Comparison of sales performance across different stores and departments through the Sales per Labor Hour Ratio
- Average Sales Ticket, Customer Traffic, and Cost of Produce Goods Sold
- EBITDA
- Validates that products are bought from the accurate suppliers to benefit from discounts and maintain profit margins.
- Safeguards that inventory meets company-defined standards for availability
- Keeping an eye on the diversity of products supplied, which involves:
- Systematic assessment of departments to maintain top-selling merchandise and weed out extremely slow-moving items
- It is a requirement of company policy to introduce new products on a regular basis.
- Maintains company standards by properly rotating and stocking perishable items.
- Markdowns are controlled in adherence to the company's specified guidelines.
- Entrusted with supporting the Store Manager in the process of recruiting, educating, and overseeing all store staff following company policies.
- Personnel undergo training, receive assignments, and are accountable for task completion.
- Confirms that the master and daily schedules are correct, thorough, and aligned with the store's requirements. Ensures schedules are posted in a timely manner and allocates daily tasks based on company task sheets.
- Works in tandem with departmental managers to allocate employees effectively for daily tasks.
- Trains and supervises employees to create a united store impression and aid customers in all realms.
- Collaborates with managers in different departments to provide employees with training opportunities for various tasks.
- Partners with staff to ensure adequate product knowledge to meet customers' needs, training staff on where to find answers to customer questions by utilizing store resources.
- Aids the Store Manager in completing and conducting performance reviews for all store personnel with assistance from department managers. Assists in granting wage increases when suitable.
- Collaboratively interviews and selects candidates for employment with the guidance and input of department managers.
- Takes care of performance and disciplinary issues in a timely and effective manner, in coordination with Human Resources for additional support.
- Facilitates clear and direct communication with store staff, such as conducting monthly staff meetings and posting important company announcements and updates.
- Required to maintain adherence to safety protocols without deviation.
- Guarantees that Ulti-time edits are processed in a timely manner.
- Tasked with supporting the Store Manager in instructing, mentoring, and developing the store workforce.
- The focus is on staff members increasing their understanding of nutrition and product knowledge.
- By complying with company standards, he or she facilitates the answering of customer questions using Structure/Function statements and statements concerning nutritional support.
- Handles operational responsibilities adeptly, including managing daily schedules, checklists, and opening and closing tasks.
- Confirms that store paperwork and reports, including the Monthly Manager's Report, are accomplished within the required timeframe.
- Effectively manages the DSR and Manager's Cash duties, ensuring accuracy.
- Responds to all calls from department managers while on shift and assists in managing staff breaks.
- Addressing various disruptions to daily business operations, such as managing loitering incidents, handling solicitation issues, responding to emergency weather conditions, and enforcing restroom etiquette.
- Adheres to a schedule determined by the store's needs, which may include evening and weekend shifts, and a total of 45 hours worked each week.
- Instructs the team on ways to show backing for decisions taken by the home office, closely follows instructions from headquarters, and ensures precise completion of tasks.
- Processes and follows communications (memorandums, faxes, electronic messaging) from the corporate office while working off-site.
- Displays nimbleness in responding to fluctuating job requirements to meet goals.
- Within an organization, managers are expected to lead and uphold the standard of excellence through their professional conduct and job proficiency.
Qualification of Retail Service Manager:
- High school diploma or GED required 1-2 years management experience in grocery and/or related retail experience, natural foods industry a plus.
- Skilled in managing fluctuating work demands.
- Demonstrating the ability to satisfy state and county laws by completing essential food safety training and passing mandatory exams to obtain certifications.
- The requirement for operating a forklift includes obtaining certification.
- Stay in compliance by keeping your food safety certifications up to date through ongoing education and registering with the necessary agency if applicable.
- Shows a great deal of urgency in completing tasks and is highly skilled in organization.
- Demonstrates expertise in interacting with customers professionally.
- Skill in following through on given directions effectively.
- Essential to have cashier training experience.
- Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and Outlook is necessary.
