Job Summary of Frozen Department Lead:
Responsibilities of the Frozen Department Lead include maintaining the profitable operation of the dairy/frozen department, as well as providing guidance, training, and supervision to all department staff. Department Managers are accountable for the success of their assigned departments and must take on the responsibilities of the Manager on Duty (MOD) per the schedule.
Responsibilities of Frozen Department Lead:
- Prioritizing the delivery of exceptional customer service above all else.
- Illustrating honesty, reliability, and top-notch quality while complying with all rules.
- Establishing welcoming, comprehensive, and easily browsable categories.
- Handling orders for the dairy and frozen categories, as well as managing inventory levels accurately for deli and meat items.
- Supervising the department's financial performance by managing margin, COGS, and profitability while also working towards minimizing shrink and maximizing the efficiency of purchasing processes.
- Guaranteeing that all products currently in inventory meet the requirements set by the company.
- Handling and ensuring the completion of unique purchase orders.
- Implementing retail strategies with the use of merchandise shelves, endcaps, and dynamic presentations.
- Directing and actively taking on responsibilities such as labeling, fronting, rearranging, cleansing, reducing prices, restocking, and managing stored inventory.
- Supervising and guiding department personnel through task assignments and subsequent tracking of their work.
- Partnering with departmental counterparts to facilitate the cross-training of employees as a strategy to fulfill all operational requirements.
- Showing through hands-on activities and observational sessions.
- Assisting in conducting interviews and recruiting to address departmental needs.
- Supporting the store manager in managing performance and disciplinary issues within the department.
- The beginning and end of the business day for a store, which includes activities like compiling DSR and finalizing cash management protocols.
- Performing duties related to register operations, such as providing backup cashier support, overseeing merchandise returns, addressing customer issues, and managing register shift transitions, including those specifically for breaks.
- Safeguarding the security of both clients and workers.
- There are instances when businesses need to address disruptions to their usual operations, such as dealing with loiterers, solicitors, unexpected weather events, and misuse of restroom facilities.
- Following company standards when answering customer questions, which may involve employing Structure/Function statements or statements highlighting the nutritional benefits of products.
- Continuously improving knowledge about different products.
- Operating SAP in conjunction with inventory management software, carrying out report analysis using BEx, sending emails, and utilizing IS programs as required.
- The schedule is structured around the needs of the store, involving availability during evenings, weekends, and holidays. Performance expectations include completing a full 40-hour workweek across five days and attending mandatory store meetings.
Qualifications of Frozen Department Lead:
- It is recommended to have a High School diploma, GED, or similar level of education.
- Forklift certification entails showcasing the skills and knowledge necessary to operate forklifts in a safe and competent manner.
- 2 years of experience in retail experience in a grocery or retail environment preferred; natural foods background is a plus.
- A preference is given to individuals who have supervised others for 1-2 years.
- Demonstrating the capability to fulfill food safety training obligations as stipulated by regulations while upholding compliance through the continual registration and upkeep of certifications where relevant.
- Competence in managing fluctuating priorities while staying dedicated to the present job.
